Holden must of thought they were very safe, as they Rego the Lone o Ranger LJ GTR Torana as a V8 in Sept 1972 and did lots of testing with the Prototypes as well as Harry Firth's HDT Team, I find it funny that the RTA's want Chassis Kits and LX Torana Disc's and LX Calipers on a LJ when the LJ GTR Prototypes ran the LJ Brakes and No Chassis Kit.
They gave one to Joe Felice their motorsport manager to drive so were definately safe

Al,For Sure Wayne 100% and NCOP will need to wake up that there were some built with V8's and were deemed safe by GMH and they were not stopped due to any safety reasons.

Al,
Genuine question arising: the V8 LJ 's, were they tagged and ADR as V8's, or did they carry 6 cylinder data in that regard?
I ask because whilst yes, I see the point they were factory to a given specification, nonetheless they weren't 'accredited ' as such for want of a better word meaning NCOP et al likely need do nothing about that - the cars never 'officially' lived in that guise if you get my meaning?
I look forward to buying the issue when on the news stand.
Cheers, TB
I would have said it less fancy, but I tend to agree.
If it wasnt a "production model" then the NCOP has no real need to acknowlege it?
Cheers.

We need to get someone on the inside, get this through to set a precedent, and we are away.
Not that I would put a V8 in a little Torana, but many would.

I hear you Al but no, not convinced sorry - taking an entirely pragmatic position here on it mind you.
I submit that unless the model was presented to, and subsequently 'accredited' (there is that word again) by the vehicle standard/compiance mob of the day, then it was never 'released' per say.
Those three cars were in actuality, merely prototypes.
No different to the engineering hacks we see running about nowadays with those silly black and white colour schemes all over them - registered yes, but never submitted let alone released.
Now if you could somehow show that what with the production being all but two weeks out when canned, the cars in that specification (V8) had indeed been presented and endorsed by the relevant government agency then you may well have a case to take to those who administer the NCOP to permit V8's in LJs - the car had in fact been submitted for, and accredted in that guise.
I do imagine however there will remain a sticking point around it never being released in that specification to which the authorities will cling tight.
Keep going you LJ sleuth you - if GM-H submitted the cars for accreditation and they still have the endorsed paperwork then you may well be on to something - assuming they wish to share it with you - best of luck with it.
I'll go looking for that magazine - do you know when it hits the stands?
Cheers, TB
