Know of 3
Wow that's pretty rare then! Considering Tuxedo Black wasn't on the Torana exterior colour charts until mid 76. Would those 3 L34s be special order cars then?

Tuxedo Black or Warrigal Black ?
AFAIK Tuxedo Black replaced Warrigal Black round 1973 or so.

That's true but Tuxedo began to appear regularly in 1975 going by cars I have recorded. And I have a July '74 HQ V8 Kingswood Sandman ute and a December '74 HJ Sandman van in Tuxedo. It isn't explicitely listed as a regular production colour until colour chart A626 but it was an easy CTV order to make.

I know of one rotting away in a person's yard.

They are CTV (Colour-Trim variation) cars. You could just about always get a black Holden, Torana or Statesman, probably the easiest variation to get.

Tuxedo is on your chart there Hanra.
Funny how the two shots of Mandarin have come out as completely different colours. The top one looks like Sebring. Different camera angles I guess.

Why would they Al? If they damaged a block they would just get a new NZ block, or Harry was getting blocks cast up at CAC too
Did any of the Harry Firth HDT L34's have QT engines in them or on there log books ????????

In Tassy
i have come across two L34's, one was in yellow and the other was Barbados Green, im sure they both had the track pack option on them, the yellow one was in Queenstown for along time, and owned by Lee Wallace, and the Green one was owned by a Chef who worked at the HEC Camp Kitchen in Tullah on the West Coast, but he was from Hobart
The HO pack bits and pieces were still being flogged off by spare parts up until 1980 and because after 74 they did not comply with ADR,s dealers were given stickers to put on parts saying even though they fit that they did not comply. A mate put a kit on a l34 in1979 and there is a red one with only some of the bits and the bloke grinding the cams said he only did 12 or thereabouts but every engine builder had his ideas.

I'll third that. Love them in Monteray Green. I still remember the one on the transporter truck at Torana the Great. Not sure if it is the same car, the plates on that particular said it all...

I was thinking the first SLR5000 they ran then maybe the first couple of L34 in the start of 1974, as Harry may of had a few QT Engines with the Full XW7 Parts in them left over, he might of use them up in the early cars or NOT.

The first 3 pilot cars had obscure nos .The Bob Morris car had eng no R-642136 and i only have 1 eng no of the next 2 HDT cars all built on 31/5/74 and that was an early HZ no 009069 the next earliest HZ no was 012840 built on 18/6/74

Thanks Wayne that answer the Question I asked
Posted 28 August 2014 - 08:22 PM
Thanks guys, yes im very proud, I was so nervous putting it up on the site, but I thought it would be some thing different, all original, except a respray quite a few years ago, and yes the standard wheels are with the car, this one was internally ordered by an Holden executive, Salmon street Melbourne. Outer may correct me on this, but im led to believe only three L34,s were made in this colour. Its quite amusing, that when I take it to shows, people most often comment "nice custom paint job mate!" I tell them its the factory colour, and most say no way they never came in that colour!! its all part of the fun of owning any special Torana, Cheers for your interest, and kind replies, all the best Torana enthusiasts, Racer8.
