So, from someone who pays no attention to dunnies, are the tail lights supposed to not fit??

Was scratching my head the whole time then you said you were done??

Cheers.

What do you mean not fit? As in they don't follow the swage in the panel? Yeah that's just a holden thing. The panel was originally designed for VB and VC tail lights which do fit inside the swage. Either way I like how it's looking so shut up or I'll cry : )

The VH tail lights kind of stick out more than the VC ones because they overlap the panel a lot more.

Posted Image

The SLE and brock VH's had trims around the lights to blend them in a bit more.

Posted Image

Plus there's also the fact that in all the pics I've posted the lights have just been sitting in there, not bolted in. Maybe I should just go with some nice XF tail lights instead hahahaha : )

Haha now there's a twist on the usual "what lights would better suit a UC?" - more like "what car would UC lights suit?"...

I think the best thing UC lights look good on is fire : )

Barry, did you get the 58? I hope so : )

Well I did a little bit more today. I bought a piece of 12x3mm flat bar the other day to extend the lower lip of the hatch so I figured I'd glue it on.

I sanded the primer off the edge inside and out and also where the badge holes are so I can weld them up at the same time.

Posted Image

I took my time tacking it on just to make sure it's nice and straight.

Posted Image

After 1400mm of weld and some sanding it looked like this : )

Posted Image

I think it really ties the rear end together now. To me it doesn't look modified. Maybe I'm just biased, but it all looks like it should be there now. I can't wait to get a decent bumper to put on it.

I'm just going to dump some pics now.

So that's it for now. I wont get back onto this for a week or so as I have to do some work to the hatch, camaro and BMW. Slowly but surely they'll all get done : )

Hi Tim,
I know you said the VH lights sit lower the the Monza ones but would it be possible to mount them
higher to sit closer to the hatch lip. The pic of the VH has them hard up against the boot lid and this
seems to hide the recess in the quarters around the indicators.

The lights in all the pics are just sitting in place, not bolted, so they'll pull in properly when that's sorted.

But having said that, if you look at the pic I posted of the brown VH tail light it has just as big a gap, they've just painted red in there so it's disguised. Either way I quite like how the tail light doesn't cover the swage. Makes it look more interesting.

Well I thought I'd have a hack at the chassis rails, just to see who I can upset this time hahahaha!!!!

Here's the lovely chassis before.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Choppy : )

Posted Image

So I'm going to use some rivets to put this piece of commodore rail into the monza. Rivets and glue : )

Posted Image

I had to cut a bit of the monza extra bracing out to get access to welding the new rail in. I'll weld the brace back on after I've welded the inside of the rail.

Posted Image

Here's the brace welded back into place. I mean rivetted.

Posted Image

The other chassis rail had some minor surface rust, but I just don't trust it.

Posted Image

So I'm going to cut it out and replace the outer part with a new piece of 2mm zinc.

So that's the rails done. I've also started cutting up the right hand rear quarter but I'll post that when I've done more.

Good call on the second rail.
No doubt about it if you can see a little rust theres a good chance theres a lot more lurking underneath.
