It's the same steel, but I wouldn't be surprised if where it's from they salt the roads in winter.

Wow! I thought my Torana was bad - & its such a lousy job grinding out rust especially if you grind through to the other side & there's nothing left!!!
Technical question - you coated the bare metal with rust converter. How long will that protect the metal from the rust nasties?
cheers

Paul

Hi Paul. If the converter has stopped any active rust, in the case of the stuff I use the brown bits turn black/purple when the rust is neutralised, then it should be etch primed as soon as possible. Having said that I've got some panels in the shed in converter that have been that way for many years. When I do etch them though I'll sand them and reapply the converter first just to make sure.

Well that pretty much took care of yesterday, and what a fun day it was too : )

I can never tell if you are being facetious when you say this stuff! LOL.

Rust scares me.

Geeze Tim, is there ever going to be a car that you say "nah mate, she's too bloody rusty to fix"?

As always, looking forward to the journey ahead as these Monzas are a nice looking car when given the Aussie touch.

As a matter of interest, what are those wheels? They look all satanic 'n' shit and I cant recall seeing anything like them before.

Cheers,

T

Thanks Tim
As a (very) amateur restorer I often only get partway through a job & have to leave it so I appreciate what other people do to solve these problems.
Re the Monza If my memory hasn't totally failed I think GMH tossed an Australianized version around as a possible replacement for the Kingswood etc. Some of the concepts were pretty good so It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out

Hmmm, might have to get busy on photoshop and see what they will look like. From the quick search I did they are 5 x 120 PCD which is Commodore stud pattern right?

If you can ask what he wants for them that would be cool man. No great urgency though.

Cheers,

T

Yes, that is the correct PCD, which is same as Commodore. Offset is also as per Commodore.

Never heard of nor seen the Brisbane cars before.

Brock was keen to bring them in, Holden wasn't. Hence just the one HDT prototype.

Adayer was nothing to do with the Monza, they were just an Australian Commodore with the 2-door Rekord side panels fitted.

Found a couple of photo's of some options??

Could go the Race car repo or the HDT angle?? May end up similar to the UC A9X mock up which i think looks pretty slick!! :spoton:

That grey monza from the magazine posted above looks familiar. Pretty sure it's the same one that was at my place a little while ago.

Geeze,fellas.

I reckon some of you blokes were born without eyes.

These truely are an unattractive motor car in standard form, its bloody lucky The Dirt has it as it will take all his skill and imagination to make it pretty.
