I have a pic from a parts catalogue showing 2600s LC model has twin turned downed tail pipes. Was wonder if this is the same for all LC gtr's. And if not what should my August 71 173 have.

Hi

According to the late LC parts catalogue - the 161S and 173S had the same muffler.

Cheers

My 6/71 LC GTR also has the same muffler as above. ie curved downward twin tail pipes. The reson I say this is that you see many LC GTRs with straight tail pipe extensions from the rear muffler.

As for the sound of my GTR exhaust - orchestral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Dec 71 GTR and was talking to Brad earlier this week. It appears that with the 173 engine, they had the LJ exhaust system but with the LC muffler attached (which would mean having the 2 inch pipe reduced to fit the LC GTR muffler).
Brad suggested the reason for the LJ system was due to the change in the gearbox (from Opel to M20) which meant the cross member at the back of the gearbox was 3 inches further Bach with the M20 (thus a different bend to the LJ exhaust)

FWIW, I have one of his early LC XU1 repro mufflers on my car now, and am very happy with it. Fits up beautifully, and sounds great.

I actually managed to make it to the last meeting, and took it there. You're welcome around for an 'inspection' any time Alf; it's all stock now!
