Hi all..

Can anyone point me in the direction for what type of hydraulic clutch kits are out there? I'm doing an auto to manual conversion on my LC, fitting and aussie 4 speed, and was going to go the good old "rat trap" but everyone seems to laugh when I mention it. Trying to get a good one could also be difficult. A few kid guys from here have a few on offer but it is worth going down that path?

It seems that hydraulic is the way to go so is there a complete kit to buy and do they fit up without too many hassels? Some feedback on places to look at and peoples experience in fitting them would be great. Pics on the set up would be helpful also.

SO you already have a bellhousing ?

Easiest way is actually the UC cable setup
Hydraulic has issues... but seems to be easier on LC-J than LH-X

Yes, already have the bellhousing.. ok, UC cable set up may be another option? So all I need is an UC bellhousing, clutch fork and cable? Cable fit to original clutch pedal ok? Might be a cheaper option also...

Anyone using the UC cable on their LC/J out there?

I use Commodore bellhousing and clutch cable with LC/LJ 4 cylinder pedal and an adaptor at bellhousing

I used a early commode cable, the clutch is very light and smooth.

Thanks for the feedback guys!! So UC and commodore the same? I think I have a 4 cyl pedal also.. So something like VB/C bellhousing,fork and cable? Are later models any good with the blue motor? I'll start looking to see what I can find... I just want to keep it simple and the cost down... I know, bloody cheapster!!!

The UC/Commodore bell housing are the same. I will get a pic of the mod that I done to a std pedal.

This is a pic of an LJ clutch pedal that I converted to accept a UC clutch cable that I had fitted to my LJ.

Thanks heaps for that... I will get looking for the gear I need... The pedal mod looks fine to do..

So what do you need to do to the firewall? Is there a tube like thing that the cable sits in and is there adjustment there?

When i did the cable conversion on my LJ i machined up an adaptor to go through the hole where the pull rod went through and welded it in

I just bored a hole in firewall to suit commodore rubber block and used my adaptor and ajustment at bellhousing.
might be cheap but also simple and cables easy to come by, done 3 in last 5 yrs none broken so far.

So limo, the commodore cable has a rubber block as part of the outer cable? that will work as well!!

Are commodore 3 and 4 speed manual bell housings, cable and fork the same? Just looking at at a few in the quokka. Didnt think there were 3 speed commodores! Will something out of a WB to V? work?

There wasn't a 3 speed Commodore unless it was an auto

Do the MC6 torquemaster Bellhousing from the VC/H/K commodores bolt up to the aussie 4 speed? (6 cylinder)

if you want a blue engine bell housing to bolt up to an aussie 4 speed using a cable clutch i got 2 here,the throw out lever is here as well but its had the pins burnt a bit,could be repaired

Thanks for the offer Phillip! I'll get back to you on that as I think I just scored a bellhousing and fork from a WB!! I'm going to get it tomorrow but if its not right or I cant get one, I will certainly give you a call. The postage cost should buy me one here in the west, I hope...

Now, the next question is which cable do I use? WB, UC, commodore? Are they diff lengths? What did you use? I suppose length isnt an issue, as long as it has somewhere to hook on so I can mod my clutch pedal. Do I need to use a WB as it will mate to bellhousing?

i used the cable from a Wb from memory,i also used an extreme clutch and its as light as a feather,cant say how much grip its got coz its still sittin on blocks

I got hold of a bellhousing today, I was told it was out of a WB and looks ok to me. There are some numbers on it that someone might be able to identify for me to confirm.

I couldn't get hold of a clutch cable today but had a look on rares website. I did see that the VB/C cable had some adjustment on the cable where the HZ/WB did not seem to. My question is do I need the adjustment on the cable or is the ball in the bellhousing enough? I dont know what the set-up was.

Both of them should have adjustment, the Commodore may be shorter, so would fit in the engine better.

Don't use your firewall for the cable to pull against unless you reinforce it. I made a bracket to hold the cable using the 3 mounting points that the rat trap used.

Thanks kiwi.. can you put a pic up of that? The original rat trap bolted to the engine block and the rod went through the firewall onto the clutch pedal, nothing actually used the firewall to pull against from memory.

Cool, thanks for that kiwi!

I was looking at the clutch set up on the 4 cylinder torana and thought that it might be a good way to set it all up. I had a 4 cylinder clutch pedal and thought I had some other bits from one I got some bits off a few years ago..

I got digging, found the pedal and gave them a freshen up.

I was thinking of using the clevis and cut the hook thing off the cable.

Happy so far and all I need to do is find the right spot to drill the hole for the cable, strengthen the firewall a bit and hope the cable length works out..
