Hey, I work in a mine in the pilbara and they use gps to track the speed of all the trucks and other vehicle movement around the site. It is also in all the Landcruiser's, the gps is so accurate they can catch people speeding buy just over .5 km. It is more accurate than some of the speedos in the dumptrucks. but as far as the one above i dont know. but yes they are accurate.

It would be best to check the rules in QLD and get an answer in writing if possible.
In theory a speedo that relies on GPS alone will not be able to comply with ADR 18 and therefore is not legal in Australia on a vehicle with ADR 18 on the compliance plate.
Basically if you can not see the sky a GPS speedo will not work. GPS will not work in tunnels and often GPS will not work in cities with lots of high rise buildings. Due to these limitations in theory a speedo that relies on GPS alone will under read in many circumstances and therefore not comply with ADR 18.

As above, plus:
ADR 18 approves the originally fitted speedo for the vehicle.
If you want to change it, that requires approval from the transport authority and probably testing at your cost. If it has an approval mark (E45 in a circle for Australia), you probably get away without specific approval, but I haven't looked at the crap that Supercheap etc sell to see if they're legal.....
But as above, it won't work in all situations anyway, so it probably wouldn't get appoval.
Grant..
