Hello
Does anyone have aluminium steering rack bushes, can you buy them? does anyone have a drawing of them??

my steering rack almost touches the sump in a stroker chev. the steering rack is higher than the X-member so I am planning to machine some up with an offset hole in the centre to lower the rak by approx 5mm.

You will probably need to cut/massage the k-frame near the steering box to lower the rack 5 mm. To maintain the current bump steer characteristics you would also need to lower the steering arms 5 mm to match the new rack position.

I have a spare rack and k-frame if you want to experiment. I have one k-frame with a cutout near the steering box and one without.

Welby, Where did you get those from? or did you have them made?

Andy, I have checked it all out today and it looks like it would drop 5mm, Maybe my rack is sitting to high for some reason.
How much would the bump steer be affected by lowering the rack 5mm?

At a guess the difference between LX and UC steering arms would be less than 5 mm which would indicate that 5 mm is significant.

I will have a look at my rack tonight. I thought the back of the steering box was within 1-2 mm of the k-frame. I may be getting it mixed up with the Axistr power steering rack which was within 1 mm of the k-frame.

I bought them off someone here on the forum, for the targa hatch.
I remember i expected them in aluminium and when they arrived they were so heavy i threw the box in the spare parts cabinet.

Meant to have them remade in ally sometime but never got around to it.

You are welcome to play with them.

The rule in the photos below is sitting on 6 mm aluminium flat bar.

There is only a couple of mm if that between the steering box and k-frame.
