If you read this Street Machine mag article on the Styling V8 LJ Torana from June 1990, they seem to think that the Barneys Shirt LJ XU-1 is the fabled V8 LJ XU-1 Car. ??????????.
So
3-V8 LJ GTR's
1-V8 LJ XU-1 (Barneys Shirt)
So GMH might of had 4-V8 LJ's not 3 LJ's

If they ever were going to build such a car apart from a test mule it would not have had a factory modified motor like the L34 engine as it was not until april 73 that REDCO were sent bare engines to do the developement thing.1972 was the debut date that V8 XU1,s were to hit Bathurst. So H,s special engine hotrods are in the same class as my mates 100/4 healy where even a supercharger was not quick enough. Out with the 4 in with a 400+cu Oldsmobile V8 -not enough -so supercharge that.Held many records at Mallala with narrow bluestreak tyres. Lanac park record still stands.Probably more records at Wakefield and collingrove in its class still stand today. More than a match for a V8 Xu1. Only one thing they were not a production vehicle along with the V8 Xu1 , but the L34 was built as a production vehicle .Haaaaaaa Norm
Street Machine wereback in 1990 then, and now me in 2012

I do not know why you guys get so exited about your prototype v8 xu1,s as VDT did it years before with 308 in Big Bertha with Gerry Marshall driving it was certainly a match for H,s car or H probably copied from VDT.If they ever were going to build such a car apart from a test mule it would not have had a factory modified motor like the L34 engine as it was not until april 73 that REDCO were sent bare engines to do the developement thing.1972 was the debut date that V8 XU1,s were to hit Bathurst. Except that thing had so many handling flaws, it was near to undrivable....

HDT HQ would be the builder you would think, now under C.A.M.S Rules of 1972, what raced on the track, had to be sold on the showroom, that was the rules of 1972, so there would of been 200-Current XU-1's with modified V8 Engines under C.A.M.S Rules of
1972.

Did Barney's vin tag ever turn up ?
The rego papers that Holden did at Vic Roads say that its a XU-1 on its rego papers, list its Chassis Number and JP Engine
Number and the car still has its JP Engine and its Chassis number matches its A.D.R tag that matches the chassis number
on the original rego papers from vic roads, mmmmm has a JP Engine, mmmmmmm its a XU-1

Well i'll take the info vic roads provides especially as it was GMH who sold the car and when the eng.no and chassis no match it really matters little whether the vin tag is there or not as the nos. scratched on the back of the adr tag match the vin.
You have my contact details feel free to ring me.

We know what it is and where it's been, even more than is publicly stated, and still tracing more info.
Barney's Shirt could be the most significant car to come out of Holden so far..........
There are a couple of other cars that haven't come to light yet........

Adam, stirring the pot on this car is useless as the amount of effort gone into ID-ing it surpasses Saggy Sarah...........

This Hot 308 1972 LJ XU-1 is still alive in Tassy, its a Candy-Apple Red Colour, runs only a 6 Cyl these days, been in the same area for a long time now, would of been a beast back in 1985 with its twin turbo's on the 308 V8 Engine.

i think this is the Car how it looks these days, there is a look alike of it in Tassy as well, that was on ebay for sale not so long ago, but i think this pic is the real deal one.
