good news Jason and at least you will find all the leaks driving it home :D

my 3 guesses are

1- front left side floor, water dripping down from the heater box under the dash,
2- front right coming from under the dash from blocked drain tube
3- in the boot from the rust around the rear glass aperture

but hey i know i would rather have a Torana to drive then one sitting in the shed as a roller :banghead:

Didn't check for leaks, was to worried about getting her home in one peice with the lack of vision. Wipers are getting replaced, rear demister doesn't work, horn doesn't work, plus I had a bit of fun and had it step out a few times. Got in and she had that nice old car smell. Loved it. Going to take her for a quick spin this arvo then try and fix a few things over weekend. Might even put the new springs in her tonight.

Yea I agree...I'd rather have my car on the road, driveable & fixing the little things as I go, than in a thousand bits in the garage!

well i got to see the green beast in the flesh yesterday arvo and it looks to be a great starting point thats for sure, got the normal bumps and bruises and sounds good too, sounds to have a mild cam and runs quiet smooth the problem is..............................

i think Jason is going to have a hard time pulling it apart for the resto as he seems to be enjoying cruising which i dont blame him one bit :driving: and has given me my mojo back to get my build dusted off and under way again...... thanks mate and was good to catch up :D

Well, I bit the bullet and decided to put the new springs in. Well wasnt as big a job as I was expecting and the springs were cut to the crapper. Got the new ones in to get a better ride, but now have a knocking noise in the front left I need to fix. Get the cluster back this week and will be putting it back in. By the way, should the cable be turning at the end where it goes into the speedo? Looking at it today while driving and it didnt turn one bit.

lol the springs are a bitch to change and im guessing they were the fronts :tease:

speedo cable should be spinning without the cluster in so i would say the cable is busted or the nylon gear that goes in the the side of the box is shagged Jason..

take the nylon gear out of the box and give it a couple of turns and see if the top of the cable spins, or just give the cable a bit of a pull from the cluster end and see if it comes right out.

cable is good nik, checked that last week when the cluster came out for repair so will check the nylon gear. Yeah the car sits much better now but higher, All the bushes look like the originals too and have to do the wheel bearings so will go over the tie rods then. Also it looks like it has been used as a burnout machine as the rear breaks have been "bypassed"

might be a good idea to sit the front on some stand and get under it with a bar and long flat screw driver and have a good check and look to make sure everything is intact. if you want you can borrow my stands and also have a floor creaper too. stop in after work and grab them if you like just shoot me a txt as im not using them im doing maintenance on 4 motor bikes. found a crack in the frame on the young blokes quad :o so have to zap that up tomorrow

Well I went out today and bought some bits. Picked up two stands from supercheap for $32ea, a grinder and stripper pad (from Bunnings). Also ordered a Holley 670 street avenger vac secondary carby. Will be selling the Holley vac secondary.
One thing that has cheesed me off is I got my cluster back from being repaired. Hooked it up to see how it went and all I got was the following...
Tacho works, temp guage went up without starting the car to about 1/4, fuel guage didnt move, volts seems to work and oil pressure didnt move. Now would I be right in thinking that the temp is somehow hooked up to the fuel sender??? Because I have about a 1/4 tank of fuel in it. But now the temp guage wont work and that area of cluster got quite warm to touch. looking in behind where the cluster would sit is what looks to be another wiring loom which has been cut. Lost a lot of sleep going over this in my head and at 1am was about to get out of bed and strip every bit of wire out.

Does the engine have the correct sender units for oil/temp? If not, the guages won't work properly or at all. Fuel guage could be a faulty sender unit or poor earth. I had to fit an earth wire from the sender unit to the body of the car to get mine to work acurately. Also, the harness plug for the instrument clusters has a poor earth connection, design flaw that affects alot of these cars, run an earth wire from the earth point on the back of the guage cluster to the body of the car, this will ensure it gets a better earth than the original harness plug gives it.

Correct senders as I ordered them through work, will try the new earth lead over weekend. Will be in sydney for the next two weeks doing a course so thinking of pulling all bar the drivers seat out plus carpet and giving it to an auto elec to re-wire...

The running project continues and as Lee has said, I dont want to stop driving it and strip her just yet so on the weekend I fitted the new carby and car runs great. Went round to the old mans as he has a bit more room in his garage (and he has been a mechanic all his life so was able to give me a few pointers) for the fitting and tune.

the old carby in the very messy engine bay :sucker:

and the new shiny 670 street avanger

now it just makes me want to drive it more :3gears: . Will be at the auto sparkies next week sorting out the wiring as the temp guage is playing funny games and fuel guage works when it wants to. That red wire you can see also needs to be connected for the electric choke. We couldn't find anywhere for it while fitting the carby. :banghead:

looks good Jason and dont worry about the red wire, Torana's dont need a choke, jus plenty of air and fuel = :3gears:

Great carby choice mate. I have one too but just upgraded to the 770 Avenger. Just wire your choke wire to the coil.

Isn't the coil only around 7 volts with a reduction or something? Destructions say not to wire it to the coil

I have mine wired to the coil, the electric choke works fine. Interesting they say not to. It is only a choke after all..

yeah they say it may affect the voltage to the spark plugs thus affecting performance and running issues
