Hi all....
Its been a while.. I have been busy doing some house renos on my beach house and playing with the "burnout bomb"
Anyway.. The XU-1 has gone to the panel guys house to get the left side panel work done, then high. Then some colour,, As long as he doesnt take too long.. I want the weather warm to paint..
First time for a while that the car was "on the road"..... Cant wait..
I also managed to get the doors off my 4-70 LC GTR.... Used and oxy and my home made pin removers.. all good, doors are very fixable.. not as bad as the rest of the car... Ive put the green play car aside so as I can start on this... I will start stripping when the house renos are done.. Should be an easy fix.. Just time consuming as its going to require lots of spots removed.. Im going to replace the whole floor pan from boot to firewall...
Ive been busy the last few weeks doing some house renos on my girls house near the beach.. We have to keep the "women" happy or we cant play ...
Done the front main bedroom and the hallway.. New cornices, doors, window coverings, made a pelmet, tiled and fitted 3 x power points... 100% better... Finnished laying the hallway tiles yesterday. Im hanging new doors today and grouting... Im going to replace ALL the windows with double glazed glass... Just have to save the coin.. Aint cheap.. And we all think cars are expensive.. Renovate a house.. Hardware shops are a major ripp off...
After this is done, Im going to make some sets of inner floor sill and sill end repair bits.. L&r sides... Im need some and a few fellow forum members have asked if I can make some for them.. Ill show again how I go about it in detail..
Merry Christmas...
Mike

Great work with the LC Mike. I've shown my mate this build because he's just picked up a nice rusty XY falcon that he's about to start on & I wanted to show him that anything is possible as long as you have the passion & perseverance to see it through, so thanks for posting all your work mate as it's a good inspiration to all

Happy new year to you all.... Hoping that it was good..
Anyway.. We have progress.... I have nearly finnished the renos.. Hallway tiled, just waiting for the missus to paint the kickers and architraves.. Then Ill put on and its finnshed.
Shes happy, and now I can get on with the important thing..
My car.
It has got some filler on it.. First skim is done.. Second skim on...Looks likes there heaps of bog... 90% comes off...
This will get the correct shape and then high fill, then colour... Looks like the old fart is going to get done for me soon...
I hope so.. Ide like to start painting NOW!!!!!..
Ive shown what Im using to "spot spray" any metal that shows during the bog process...IIve instructed that NO BOG TO BARE METAL.... Just being VERY fussy....
Im using the PPG One Spot, ran out so I could only get some Protec as PPG was closed.. Same stuff, different colur... Its a single pack epoxy primer surfacer that is great for bonding to metal/bog... Only to be used as a "spot spray"..... Saves mixing the Epotec every time some metal is shown..

Hi all...
Its been a while.
5 restored cars later, and nearly a year.I can now return to this car..
I spent the day sandblasting and Epotecing the boot/inside cabin area..
I also applied some fresh POR 15 to the spare wheel well and inside the rear quarter areas.. Let tack off then painted over with Epotec.. Its the best protection I can offer.
What a shit job sandblasting the boot..
took ages and a lot of bending in funny back hurting positions. Lucky I have it on the rotiss..... Can imagine doing with out it.
I gave the rear parcel and the inside bits a go as well.
One regret..
I should of sprayed the boot "wet on wet" 2K... Would of been easier than me having to "rub" it all down..
Next car ill do that.
And the "black bits" left behind after sandblasting is previouse painted POR 15.. Sticks like glue and wont sandblast off... Bloody brilliant stuff.
Next week Im going to paint the underneath with "wet on wet" 2K Warrigal black satin"... same colour for the engine bay and balck outs..
Then some high fill and colour..
Its a bout time.

Oh..I have to add.. Ive just relised that the boot flange on the left hand side is on top.. Some one else put a new boot floor in
.. Its ment to be underneath as its an Adelaide build... Ill think about moving, but?????? car is done and I dont really want to start to strip again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ill think Ill leave it.. as its Ive documented ALL the repairs...
Good to hear from you mike looks like you've been busy, like the pic of the GTR she's looking good.
They will look even better painted..

While I had the sandblaster set up.. I also did my 4/70 LC GTR.. Its all primed in Epotec now and can sit untill I get around to painting..
Engine bay and all exterior panels..

Hi all.
I spent some time on the XU-1..
I sandbalsted the under sides of the bonnet, boot lid and a spare boot lid I might use as the original XU-1 one is a bit sad.. Ill see how it comes out..
The yellow one has no badge holes so would be a good one to modify to replicate the original XU-1 boot lid.
I also sandblasted/POR 15 the inside of the window well wet area, making sure to get it into the corners. I went over the POR 15 with their UV stable satin black.. I got the blaster in there the best I could... Wont rust again.
I also put the metal dash facia back in, sandblasted the plug welds, POR 15.... Scratched it a little, I can fix that later.
Now to paint the underneath with 2K satin black..
Raining here at the moment.. so not today..

Great work as usual Mike. Very informative threads. For my information, what's the last thing you treat the bare metal with before epoxy? I hear various theories on what works best, but I'd like to know which method you prefer.

Nothing.. After sandblasting I just dust down, paint with Epotec... way too easy.
If not sandblasting... Make sure you use some metal prep.. IE phosphuric acid.... But make sure that you get ALL of it off as Epotec doent like acid.

for an Adelaide built.. The flange sits under the boot floor pan. for a Brisbane/Melbourne built it sits on top. The same as the pic.

Hi All.
Finally got the underside painted..
PPG Cobra 2k 60% Satin black... Wet on wet.
Took 25 hours to rub down... What a crappy job... Its done now and looks nice.. worth the effort.
I also put the battery tray back in and did some small repairs on the RH front guard.. Easy on the rotiss, dont know how people do it on stands??????
Also.. I noticed a dent in the side.... Dont know how it happened.. Easy fix but its pissed me..
Dont know how it happened..
Ill let dry/harden for a day or so, then Start to "block" down the body, ready for high fill.
Mike
and yes.. Rally Red is a nice colour...
Cant wait.
