You sure you have enough clear coats. But then again I'm probadly to heavy with the buff or I rub to much paint of with the 2000, I'd go through in lots of places if I don't put at least 10 coats on. how long do you plan to leave the paint before you buff it?

Ill probably put an extra 4 coats of clear on top of the 6 already. After blocking down the first 6..

Im going to leave the clear for about a month, Then a light block... I do want it to harden up before getting to heavy with the polish...

Im wanting to clear the doors today..

Wow. i can remember painting my mates HQ ststesman in acrylic and i allways left them for 6 months before buffing. He could not wait that long. After putting up with the whinging for about 1 month, I buffed it for him, he was happy with the deep hard shine and bugger all peel, and to my supprise I didn't go through anywhere and within a couple of weeks it went off badly.

I can wait... I do need a break from cars.. Its been 3 years full on... My old mate is going to polish it.. Hes the expert.. Im only a "backyarder"..

I got the masking off yesterday... Just some quick pics.. Looks nice.. Starting to look like an XU-1 again...

It has the original 3100x motor.. should do the job....

on another note.. I got the doors cleared yesterday... 6 even coats... Looks nice and shiney with a good depth to it.. The lines are nice and sharp..

Now the car itself.. Maybee today..

Thats gonna look awesome out in the sun all polished up!

It "bright" now.. Will be very nice when finnished.. Lots of work. But worth it...

Yeah they look good, original motor, WOW, I would not put anything else in there, so you will have to detail it up, do you have all the stock rocker cover, carbies etc? I think I have the original old 161 and head for my HR ute so I'm even thinking of doing a fair bit to it and putting it back in just because it might be the originaleven if its a shitty 161.

I have everything to put back as per original... all matching numbers/dates.. Its taken a while ..the car was a driver when I got it.. All i needed to get was a LC dash and correct date cd150s.. All the rest is there..

i just sold lj dash i was happy to let it go for 350 (starting bid ) it sold for 627 not everybody is affiliated with this forum ? you'll be suprized

I have the a gtr for sale.. I have a few and wont miss them.. Ide like to keep this one..Its very nice and unique.. BUT,, if the right offer comes along..

Regarding the GTR sale.. I have it on Gumtree and all ive gotten in reply is 3 scam emails saying theyll buy it now, just send my bank deatils.. Year sure mattey... Be carefull guys, there out there.

Hi all... Happy Easter

The car is officially painted.. Well the out side is and the dash :-).

After a few days "blocking" down, I managed to get 6 coats of clear on this morning.. When ill block down ill see how it looks.. Its nice and deep, has a little orange peel due to the clear being a thicker medium.. I didnt want to thin too much, I wanted coverage.. But nothing that wont rub out..

Over all... Turned out ok.. Lots of work/time/cash....I started to rub down the Epotec in Nov.... so nearly 4 months solid to Paint..

Im happy the main painting is done.. Just the engine bay and boot.. easy..

It will be a very nice straight car when the polishing is done.. Cant wait, but Ill have to.

Ive lost count on how many hours to get this far.. I think about 900 on body repairs.. 200 on getting body striaght, way too many on the paint... Trouble is you will never know how much work has really gone into this car..Its ALL covered..

I wont publicly say what " I" think it will cost to finish, but it's all plain sailing from here on in.

eg buy trading post or fle bay or gum bush a LC xu1( 40 +) + panel and paint ( on this car 40 +- i say this because the level of work you have put in has far exceeded any panel shop dodgy arse quote ) = what your asking is very reasonable.

all the best on this. money talks bull shit walks.

there not making them any more and now GMH has completed it's stint in Australia with local cars then the price just went up Bro !
