Hi all.

well after my little bit of depresion.. family matters.. Im back into it...

I rubbed the last clear down.. (Im sooo over rubbing down) I wasnt to happy with the "depth" that the 4 coats of clear gave me.. so I applied another 4..

Much better now.. good shine off the gun.. will be better when polished.. Ill let it sit now for 6-8weeks.. then block and polish.. Ill have to do the engine bay/boot later as the hardners I have are for 25-35 deg... Not 15-20.. Im not going to spend another $400 on winter hardners/thinners.. I can wait..

It still is a little orangy red as to red red,, but weve been through that.. Its a nice colour.. The clear really throws the colour out.. Looks nice in the sun..

All told.. the paint price is a scam, looks good though, so it should for the price.. Nearly 7k in paint/materials.. That includes everything from sandpaper to rags...

It has 6 coats of undercoat.. blocked down to 4.. 10 colour, blocked down to about 7-8 with 2colour/clear on top. then 4 clear then 4 clear.. should be enough.. Acrylic isnt as thick as 2k..

would of been a LOT cheaper if I chose Protec.. Not for me as I now it doesnt perform... Ill try their brand on one of my "play" cars and compare..

Thers a little over spary on the underneath paint.. Ill get to that later...

Mike

You probably wont.. This car, when done will go into my other shed for storage,, not to be driven.. Purly an investment for later on in my life... I have plenty of others to fix and drive..

It turned out sooo flat with perfect lines in all the correct placers, which are nice and sharp. Its a very straight car, no ripples/no imperfections in the paint/body at all...

Im happy with the result...

Mike you should be proud of your efforts and hopefully standing back and appreciating what you have achieved will help you through the hard times that life can throw at you.

Well done.

Mike,

go bro go !

with the peel the car is sitting up high and you see a lot more of the panel at eye level, once it's on it's wheels then you will really only be looking at the top of the line paint and the bottom will not be an issue.

bloody hell it looks pretty good to me .

i reccon the price you were asking for the car was very reasonable given the work.

it's hump day !

your on the down hill run Bro - Go go Go !

HAAA !

Looking good Mike, question how does the car balance up with the trolley you made up for it when you move it around. I was thinking of making one up for my car but was unshore were to mount it out the back, as I was thinking it could be back heavy and tip. Let me know whats it like.

Cheers Woosha

If you notice how Ive mounted the trolley, the back wheels are further back than the mount.. works a treat..

You have set a high standard, so much that every thing has to be at least to that standard, if not it will stand out like chrome balls on a black dog. you will need to be fussy now.

Mike,
Seems reasonable to me, I've spent similar. Some bits will plate with different shine, don't know why.
Look"s like you have the rare twin headlight model, lol.

Sounds about right considering there's a few big parts like bonnet hinges and catch. Depending on how coarse the finish from the blasting was can sometimes make the finish a bit dull, I had that with my headlight buckets.
Are you going give them a clear coat to help maintain the appearance?

Lucky its 2k...

Used PPG Cobra 2K 60%satin black sprayed wet on wet over PPG D839.

Ta for that James.. Gives me an idea.. Probably wont.. Ide like it dull over time as per original..

I got another lot done.. small screws etc.. I took a bit more time cleaning these.. a lot better shine.. only $80...He a nice guy to deal with.. if u want his info PM me... Hes behind the old Cheltnham race course just off Torrens road.

Hi all...

Ive been teaching myself how to zinc plate.. Lots of info on the net... Only want to do the bits that you cant see, will save me heaps.. Only cost $40 to set up..

works well... Just have to work out the right time/volts/amps..

The test bits were very rusty, hence the "pitted" finnish.. Just wanted to see what it could do..
