Hi all...

Now the paint is on and Im letting it sit for a bit.. I can tinker with the bits.. The first item in the car is the wiper motor.. I pulled it apart, cleaned, bead blasted the casing/cleared it,  re-zinced the bits at home, now to put back together and test.. Its pretty easy to do..

Take note.. dont loose the ball bearing at the end of the rotor..

Mike, you could try a mix of 10 parts water to 1 part hydrochloric acid applied to the zinc plating to lightly etch the shine off the surface then rinse off with clean water .

If the desired effect is not obtained then you can always remove the motor housing and redo the zinc plating.

I tired a few things to get right.. It needs stripping in acid, a light bead blast, a quick linnish, a buff then re do the zinc. i polished the case's zinck to see what it would like.

this was a test one. it was pitted bad from rust.... ill keep the finnish off the tank. Zincking is a bit like painting... Its as only as good as what it goes on..

I see this project as a BIG model kit.. It takes time, effort and the little things matter..

Mike, looking at the photo,s of the engine bay the battery tray is around the wrong way.The hole is not meant to be over the chassis rail.

cheers

I know the holes in the wrong spot. I didnt want to drill a whole in my inner skirt. I por 15 under the tray. Top of chassis rail and any ware any thing might dripp. Before epoxy. Should be ok.. Im using a plastic liner on top any way.

Yep no shortage of wankers around on fb/forums mike, most of the smart arse comments normally come from people who don't even own a torana or have done minmal resto work themselves, just seem to like commenting to stir sh&t cause they can hide behind a keyboard.

Hope you keep posting your tips and resto jobs on here because i found them bloody helpful and inspirational.

Hi all.

All I tried to do was show others whats out there and the work I do, and that its possable to do your self..

Trying to drum up some future work.. With all the wankers/keyboard warriors there.. I dont really want to deal with them.. heaps asked for me to make the panels that I do.. Looks like they miss out.. GOOD, that means our cars are worth more as there will be less out there with out me helping to fix.. Stuf fem.. they can take their cars to the dodgy guys to fix.. Im not interested..

The moderators of the sites have asked me to come back.. I said NO.. Im directing people who I think matter to this site.. way better than frOckbook anyday..

On another note..

Ive found the original VIC rego number for my car... KRT-340 28/08/70.... Does any one reconise this number?

onto the build again.. I wasnt happy with the marks on the metal dash, so I gave it a rub down and will repaint today. Ill also do the satin on the door jams etc.... Just being fussy..

Mike

More top work Mike.

I don't know what it is about Facebook that turns people into instant frockstains, but this forum has always been a relatively dickhead-free place. Some of the comments on Facey are beyond keyboard-warrior status, they are just clearly very unhappy people. I leave them to it and come here only for Torana advice and ideas, I use FB to keep an eye on parts and the odd good post.

Anyway, keep up the good stuff Mike!

Hi all... yep, it doesnt take long to realise that facebook is full of dicks...

anyways, back to the important things..

Painted the dash and inside the window frames in 60% satin.... Way better.. Now the boot today.. Im mixing my own blue/black,, wanting just a slight tint of grey..

Last bit of the body that needs painting then all done..

Nice day here in Adelaide, sunny and warm so I got the boot painted..  PPG D839 as wet on wet, with PPG Cobra 2k mixed by me..

The colour is more blue as to grey,, Pic shows its grey will darken as it dries a tad too...

Well guys.. It started April 2012.. officially fully painted May 2015...

Countless hours, some cash outlay and now its done.. and my missus still talks to me too.. extra bonus :-).

Im happy. Now to let it sit over winter and harden fully before polishing.. Plenty to do in the mean time.
