Hi all.. yes it looks nice deosnt it..

I did the LH front guard today.. It takes me ages.. dont know if there is a quicker way.. dont really care..

One thing if any one can help.. There seems to be some, not many scratch marks, ( see circled pic).... I sand with 1500-2000-2500-3000, then finnish with a foam backed sand pad micro fine..  I add a little polish when using the micro fine pad.. seems to work better. Always wiping down with a proper polishing cloth, I have one for each step and a couple that are soaked in water.... Using heaps of water and a drop of soap when wet rubbing.. They aint deep but there.. what am I doing wrong?????

Should I just sand a bit more and see if they go? I have a few coats of clear on and can loose one or two coats..

other than that spot there are no others..

Im glad I left the lines sharp and crisp..

I'd like to lick the paint it's that luscious

Matt, lick something else.. stay away from my car.. LOL.. only joking.. yours will be the same when done..

Haha!

Glad I gave you a smile.. I hijacked the saying from another post.. Its been in my head ALL farking day..

The scratches are most likely from either dirty sanding water or the paint balling up under the sandpaper.

You have to be extremely carefull with fine sandpapers, very common for the paint to ball up on the paper and cause train tracks.

The other thing that can cause that is going to the next finer grit to soon, but doubt you made that mistake.

i think its the balling up.. i was getting bits..  I always change the water and have 2 buckets going plus my worth bottle that is constanly on never dry always very, very wet..

so is the ultra fine sandpaper no good... The Facela Q3 says it takes 1500 marks out.. so should I just stick with 1500-2000.. or just the 1500???

they dont look like train tracks.. deffinatly scratchers.. the paint is still softish.. should i leave the polishing for a bit???

I use G3 as well, was never able to get 1500 marks out with it, but alas have never used it on acrylic either.

Give a bit a go only going to 2000, see how it comes up, worst case just re sand it with the finer grits if its not to your liking. I try to do everything as coarse as possible due to the ballign effect though.

edit, forgot to say, that looks absolutely frOcking sensational to, btw.

Cheers.

Hi Mike, I had the same issue sometimes, just had to polish/buff a few more times to get them out.

Looking great by the way.

Mike, you must be excited with the finish you have achieved, it looks awesome.
Acrylic paint gives such a different look to the car, as people say when they see my car "that's how they're meant to look " and my car is no where near your level.
I used 2000 grit and "juice " cut and polish on my car's old paint and some people think it's had a respray. Some bits I have painted and some I haven't. If I had the time and space I'd like to do the whole thing.

As for the headlight adjusting knobs, I've only ever seen one other car with these and was told that they were an optional extra???

You used the "mop" head for the first cut didnt you? Is that very aggressive when cutting? where did you get the ppg polish from.... is it a wet sytem or dry.. maybee the q3 ist as good as they say.. im using the 3m as second cut.. its a dry method.. works well.. am i getting the q3 too wet? how much water?

Hey mike working on one panel at a time i used the lambswool to get all the scratches out when I was happy I then put polisher on rotary mode this helps to get any swirl marks out then I used the foam pad I only used the ppg polish for all three steps no water....my mobile mate has used a lot of polishes in the years he has been polishing he hadn't used the ppg one but was very very impressed with it as I am I will get a pic of the system I used and post it up for you there is a shop in wingfield off grand junction rd that sells it I will find the name and let ya know....

hey mike here are some pics of the ppg pro 1 polish and my system i used as you can see the lambswool then foam the microfibre cloth and my polisher the festool 150 rotary.... also i think the polisher has made a huge difference as i said in my pm to you its not aggresive like the big polishers it takes a bit more time with the lambswool but no fear of burning through......the place to get the polish from is care distributors 5 graham street wingfield its not cheap at about $110 for a litre but its the best polish i have used and i have used all the top brands including farecla juice mguires 3m ect....the last pic is of the kit i got from them all the pads backing plate polish cloths and carry box cost me $320 but since using the smaller festool 150 i will only use that with the ppg polish....

Think I have heard of that compound, is it the one that breaks down as you use it, so gets finer and finer? BAsically 3-4 compounds in one?

Yes bomber that's it mate as I said it's not an aggressive polish it takes a bit longer but the results are worth it that's for sure....

JD

They are shown in the parts manual. There are two unrestored original 71 XU1's in Bendigo that have the knobs on the adjusting screws. Might have been like the boot light; optional on low spec cars, but standard on SL's and 82911's??

dont talk to me about "CARE DISTRIB".. I went there and asked about polishing etc.. He sold me the Q3,3m stage 2, wax top and pads... I bought my paint form there.. they take your cash, charge way too much and they DONT KNOW their products..

When buying my paint I explained that I wanted "true" acrylic so I can rub down and paint the clear when Im happy.. But no the 1K premium clear has to be treated as clear over base.. I found out the hard way.. and when asked the question why didnt you tell me it was a COB sytem.. they said know one users acylic anymore.. and that Im a back yarder and the dulon is for profesionals/trade... doesnt mean shit to me.. I said So!.. you still sold it to me??? Fark Care Dist.. Ive had enough of there shit.

Im taking ALL the polishing crap I bought off them.. well over the $300 mark and demand that they give me the PRO1 pack and cash refund.. Ive had enough of their shit.. They sold me the Farcela and the 3m and all pads.. MMMM makes you wonder.. The most profit on the shit they sold me..

I dont recomend Care distrib to anyone.. Go to Alltype Paints , main north road,, they seem to want your business.

I even asked if they have soft clothes for polishing and they said no.. we only got the microfibre.. and then I see that the pro pack has a nice soft cloth for final polish.. what the fark!!!!

so why didnt they sell me the PRO pack to use on the PPG paint.. Im really pissed as you can see/read... Ide get better service off ebay...

I like on the page how they state that the staff are trained in the use of their products.. well thats a lie. ill keep you posted..Im off there on Monday.

Fkucing hell mike Not good mate wtf were they on what has painting a car at home got to do with treating you like that....I only got my polish kit from them as I couldn't find it anywhere else I needed the whole kit as I had nothing to start with...I always get my paint from all type next to pickles on main nth rd lol as I said to you they mainly deal in protec but protec own ppg so I wasn't paying for a paint name when protec can give me the same result.... I used the new valspar clear as recommended by them and I'm very happy with it....can't understand why care didn't give you the pro 1 system to start with it makes no sence mate...

Hi all.

Ive decided to give the polish a miss for a bit.. Im seeking advice before I go any further.. F Care Distr.. I couldnt be bothered.. Live and learn.

anyways.. onto some positive things.. Ive rebuilt my 2 LC floor shift steering columns.. Isnt that hard.. got both inner tubes zinced and hardware.. cleaned/refurbished the indicator assembly, it works fine.. cleaned and repacked the bearing. painted the plastics/indicator lever in acrylic 60% satin and the main tube in 2k satin 60%..

Glued new felt dust seals in and filled with light machine oil and then put some greese on it.. both inner tubes have felt dust seals.. assembled and no probs.. good as new.. Ill put the plastics on when its on the car..They are fragile and break quite easily..

2 done.. one for the gtr and one for this..
