Hello
I got this motor with my LX and was just wondering if any one could help out with identifying it, and is it going to disappoint me, from what i can find its not going to put out a lot of power, I was told the pistons are 30 thou over and the bottom end is stock and the heads appear to be different. The block number is 14010207 any advice would be great
Thanks Steve

Its a elderbrock manifold as you can see the motor is still together so a picture of the cam would be a little difficult, what other pictures and what info do i need to get a reasonable reply?

Yes its a 350

Not alot else can be determined without a lot more casting numbers off block and heads or tearing it down

In stock form... yes its probably going to be alittle dissapointing after awhile

The heads can be identified by the patterns cast into the ends. It's been over 20 years since I've played with these things but from memory these heads aren't bad. They'll have 1.94 intakes and the ports are basically the same as the double-hump fuellies. The main difference is that they'll have the big 76cc chambers. The block will almost certainly be a garden variety 2 bolt job with a cast crank. Mightn't sound exciting but with a bit of compression and a good cam and manifold (and perhaps a quicky pocket port job) it'll run well and last forever.

Quite possibly could be a 4 bolt, as suggested pop the sump off to confirm.

The number of bolts holding the main caps on. Also the crank, whether iron or steel.

Engine number is cast on the back. What are your goals for it?

Yes, rods are arse about. The wider sides with the big chamfers should face out. You may need to remove the pistons from the rods and refit them the other way round as well. Check for a dot or a notch on the piston top that is meant to be at the front. The "F" and the arrow on the main caps should point to the front. Take a close look at the rod journals as the sides of the bearings may have rubbed on the fillet between the journals and the cheeks.
