So the 4-Door HDT Car that Harry ran at the 1977 Bathurst, was it a A9X or a L34 done up to A9X Specs ???? as i have noticed there no pic of it on here.

here you go al the obrien /harrop 77 car. for some reason the picture threw up a copy right from auto pics even though the picture i used didnt so i guess make sure you support autopics lol.i am hoping to replicate this very car soon .i think it looks pretty tuff.as you can see its been my forum pic from day one nearly .

well it will be the sister car to the number 14 ive already done and it no longer exists in its number 8 form so i guess a good car to replicate.

Yes the car was built before the release of the A9X as an A9X!.
What is the first known date you know of for the first Group C A9X 2 & 4doors :)

Hi TerrA, the photo was taken on the 15/8/1992

Good question there.
Harry had 2 sedans still being used by HDT in late 77.
One was an L34 that was updated to A9X specs, the second was an LX shell made into an A9X.
The updated L34 did Sandown, and my understanding it did bathurst too, however Chiomi who owns the LX shell said in a different thread she has evidence it was the LX shell that did Bathurst, but for reasons unknown shes unwilling to say how she knows. I would suggest it's due to some of the funny goings on with races cars and court cases going on of late. I'm sure though if Choimi says it was actually her car that did Bathurst 77 not the L34 (Peter Champion now has) that she would be correct. Her car is the real deal no questions asked and has the timeline behind it making it very easy to trace.

maybe this might be helpfull.if you pause still thru the chevron a9x dvd in the opening bits before the 77 race youll see a shot of obrien reversing number 8 back into his pit spot during practice.you can clearly see the silver dash maybe this would suggest that the lx did do bathurst 77. surely they wouldnt have put a silver dash in the upgraded l34.they wouldnt of had time for something cosmetic.also in the vid you see the 2 4 doors one with 8 harrop/obrien and one "t" bearing the name obrien on it so would it be logical to suggest that the l34 was the t car and a9x number 8?.and they do look mind blowing together.wish i could have been there.

Next time you're looking at the photos or the video, have another look and see if you can see something else that shows which car is which

Torananut,

Wouldn’t you love to be strapped into one of those bad boys in the day and roaring around grinning like an idiot having the time of your life?
Excellent old pics.

The Radburn car came 3rd at Bathurst 79, ex Grice car with an "interesting" history. Check out that roof and see if you can pick it.

red looks like the no 14 is a sticker overlay

useing just a tiny corner of the original painted number

i do not know off the top of my head what grices number was

but would love too!

car looks to be in good shape for something that allan raced

Hi Dave,

Grice used number 12 on his L34 in 1975 and 1976 at Bathurst, and on his A9X he used 6 in 1977/8/9 on the hatchback. I have a photo in magazine or book where the team were using the L34 (upgraded to A9X specs) to practice pit stops prior to the race. The four door was their back-up car, and i can't remember what number it had on the doors.

Radburn used this car at Bathurst in 1978 with number 26, check out the following photo, as Red suggested you can pick the patch on the roof.
