My 65 Mustang fastback has landed in Sydney, I'm looking at 7-10 days for customs clearance.

Will keep you all posted.

s

P.S. A big thanks to Matt and Sheri (Shermatt International) for making it happen.

I'm hoping the registration process goes smoothly, if so I'll give it a run up to Coffs for Wintersun.

Yep, I know Dirty Deeds from another forum.

The video doesn't pick it up well, the underside of the frame rail has been pushed in.

The GST you pay customs is 10% CIF, Cost Insurance Freight.

That is you total all three (cost of the car, plus insurance you paid on shipping, plus freight) the GST is 10% of all that.

Shipping costs depend on who you go with.

I'll try to do a summary when I get the time.

Probably $1,070

For me there was a $70 charge on top, possibly some transaction fee.

Freight from L.A. to Sydney was $1,550 Insurance can be 2% - 2.5% of the value of the sale price depending on how much excess you choose.

That's only GST, there are more costs on this side for customs clearance, inspections, unloading, port costs, etc. Will try to put up a summary later.

Not in NSW as long as it's not 'wild' and you can keep it LHD if it's over 30 years old.

Different story in S.A. to keep it LHD it has to be bog stock, I hear not even an after-market stereo is acceptable for registration.

I've always been a Holden/GM guy but after the 90's, haven't been too interested in many modern cars. I've slowly started liking all muscle cars - they really aren't making them like they used to so I guess you have to cherish what was.

I do prefer US Fords over the Aus. ones and yeah Mustangs have to be on top of that list. At the time I considered importing I was browsing so many ads for midyear Corvettes and 66 Mustangs. Matt (Shermatt) sends me pics of this one and I had to have it. It's at my budget limit and dollar for dollar I wouldn't be able to get a midyear of this calibre so I snapped it up.

More pics to come I assure you.

Here's a rundown on shipping.

Schumacher shipped from L.A. to Sydney for $1,550, they charged an extra $250 for de-gassing the air-con. I chose to add insurance which was 2.25% of market value here in Aus. ($500 excess)

This is what I got from Freightnet Sydney, it's who Schumacher have sent it to.

The size of a motor vehicle is approx 14cbm.

IMPORT SEAFREIGHT/MOTOR VEHICLE IMPORT
DESCRIPTION CHARGES
Formal Clearance AUD 135.00
Port Service Charge AUD 65.00/cbm x 14 = $910.00
Terminal Handling Charge AUD 20.00/cbm x 14 = $280.00
Quarantine entry AUD 139.00/entry
Quarantine attendance AUD 35.00
Quarantine inspection AUD 75.00 per inspection
Security Surcharge AUD 10.00
Delivery Order AUD 65.00
Post & Pettis AUD 5.00
Cargo Automation/CMR AUD 40.00
Steam Clean AUD 225.00 per vehicle / AUD 175.00 per motor cycle

NOTES
1. Excludes any additional disbursements paid on your behalf
2. All charges are COD
3. Excludes duties & GST payable to customs
4. All above charges exclude GST

All adds up to $1919.00 with the steam clean and steam clean is determined by customs whether you need it, I've heard of some cars requiring more than one clean.

After speaking Mainfreight to it's around $3,000 each, if you go bring over 4 cars it's about $2,300 each. Mainfreight charge $125 for de-gassing air-con.

Since Schumacher don't have an office in Sydney and handballed me to Freightnet, both agents add fat to their costs and doing it this way I'm stung paying both their margins.

Mainfreight bought out Kiwi shipping, some more info on them:

Mainfreight Automotive has an 8000m3 depot in LA, its sole purpose is exporting cars to NZ and Australia, and is run by an Aussie. We currently ship 10 containers per month to Australia with sailings to Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne departing every 2 weeks

LS1Hatch a forum member here also imports, not sure how his rates are.

I've heard of some cars getting damaged during loading and unloading, Shermatt uses Schumacher a lot and he says there's never been an issue with them and I've read others praising their service on another forum.

Here's some backstory.

I was originally going to buy this red fastback.

http://www.mustangan...es/viewall.html

The owner ended up getting offered more than I was prepared to pay, last I heard he dropped the price, not sure if he sold it.

Nothing to worry about, I still have the SL/R.

I can't drive both at once and it could do with some freshening up so I may just have to get that into the Members Projects thread.
