For comparison....for a car like a mustang sized...I charge $3500 all up to land it in Melbourne. Only other thing on top of that is GST/duty. no other fees or add ons.. Makes it nice and simple that way.

Only other reason there would be an addition charge is if it failed quarantine, but that would depend on the car of course...aside from that it's the $3500 and the taxes depending on value.

And I do all the loading, so no other companies involved. Just me an my mate there I work with. (we load this end and he unloads personally that end)

That's pretty good. Does it include any insurance and who does the unloading?

My mate I work with unloads...(he is unloading a couple containers today actually) He comes over here and we buy up vehicles and parts and load, then he goes home and does the unloading. (I also load some containers here alone when needed inbetween our main batches of them) As said, it is only us so no other people to worry about handling or dealing with your stuff...be it cars, boats, motorcycles, boats, or bits.

And that is no extra insurance, if you wanted that it would be extra. I've never had a problem though and only ever had 1 customer even ask for it...from memory it cost him around 3% or so of the value he stated. ? ( I thought the container lines cover things to a point anyways, but not sure on that off the top of my head)

Well, it was a long day for me, on Friday a had a temporary tooth placed onto my rear molar in preparation for a crown. Last night while flossing the thing falls out exposing the shaved tooth underneath.

There wasn't any pain, it was sensitive though so instead of going to pick up my car, my first trip this morning is straight back to the dentist to get another one put on. It's pressed hard against my gum and really annoying, can't wait for the crown.

Anyway I get home and start ringing towing companies to get my car from warehouse to workshop. I got a couple of quotes in the $200 area plus if they had to wait they wanted to charge more i.e. $275.

I kept ringing got one for $120 but he can't do it today, another for $165 and 2 for $140. One of the last two sounded the best, as soon as I said Port Botany and Mustang he said 'where WSI?' had to go with my gut with that one and good to get a few numbers just in case one's busy.

Best to get all the paperwork done at the warehouse first, try to get them to have your car ready as possible and then ring the towing company.

The guy at the warehouse said all was ready so I call, then a truck turns up blocks the door to pick up a bike and they still had to move pallets from behind my car to get access (see below).

Anyway to give credit where it's due, the towie only charged $140 and stuck and around for a while without charging extra. He's an older guy, straight up and knew the guys in the warehouse on first name basis so if you need a tow you can give Ed from H.Reid & Sons a call 0418 618 905

Enough ramble, time for pics.

Well,

I picked up the car from SMS last night, it was closing time so my first experience with LHD on Aus. roads was during peak hour and at night,

I'm still on Colorado plates so the thought of getting pulled over just added to the experience. Taking off for the first time with gearstick on RHS and how loud the engine is, I was instantly reminded of when I did a few NASCAR laps in Vegas.

Lane changing and turning corners had me on full alert, the side mirrors are tiny but the good thing with the fastback is, turn around and there's a huge rear windscreen with a great view.

I live in units and I may have some issues with the noise, after pulling in a neighbour came down to see what the commotion was ... and he loves it! :spoton:

I drove the Torana over to my sister's and it felt like a modern car in comparison, the handling is so much better though this doesn't detract anything from the fastback. It'll be mainly for weekend cruising so, more fun to drive in my opinion.

Chris at SMS was right about the control arms, I hit a pothole and really felt it, though some of the shock would also be due to the large wheels/low profile tyres and it more than likely has stiff shocks as well.

Catching buses and trains back from my sister's I didn't get home till after midnight so didn't have a chance to go over the car in more detail.

It feels great to have it finally home.

Next stop - lap/sash seat belts.

The year model or this particular car?

Yeah I'm pretty happy with it, love the sound of the engine too. Sounds like there's a lot of grunt there.

I've yet to wash it and it still came out pretty good in the pic even though it's a bit dusty after I drove it in the rain to the weighbridge a few weeks back.

You know, I always thought these were a smaller car, the size is deceiving, this thing is longer and at 1.38t, heavier than the SL/R

Americans and their big cars. :)

I drove it down to Geoff at All Vehicle Restraints, we had a chat about seat belt options. I'll be getting lap sash retractable for fronts and Geoff says I can get ADR lap belts for the rear but I'd better make sure with the engineer. Engineer says lap belts in rear are okay.

I'm thinking to leave the rears as lap belts instead of lap-sash to save me drilling holes in the panels. I notice those in QLD tend to have lap-sash in the rears, I suspect this is due to L02 regs.?

I can have set this up as a 5 seater or 4 seater but with that pronounced hump in the middle of the bench I prefer to keep it as a 2+2.

I took my car over to Geoff at All Vehicle Restraints to upgrade the seat belts.

Here's some photos:

^ Geoff's had a bit of a play showing another way the belt could be done with the retractor outside of the panel. We both agree the retractor is better in the panel so it's not on the floor as an obstacle.

The belts (Hemco) and plates came through and I took the car back to Geoff’s to continue where he left off.

^ I was concerned with the way the rear belt weaved under that metal strip, it’s where the previous owner anchored them so Geoff kindly relocated them to the vertical section, as below

The belt nicely lines up with the body.

Just in case anyone else is interested, Geoff's RTA approved and will provide certification for his work.

Yeah, some with open windows hear it coming and have a turn around to see what's beside them, if there's any road workers they'll all stop to watch me drive by.

I took the SL/R out for a drive just afterward and some guy did have a double take to watch me drive by. It doesn't get as many looks though it is rough around the edges and I kind of forgot even beat up Torana's are pretty rare on the roads these days

While I had the car at Geoff's I sent him the instructions from the Ford Tech Service Bulletin to set the front seats back 50mm, he did a good job with that too.

Driving the car back with lap-sash belts and the extra legroom it felt so much more comfortable, it was like driving a different car.

I'm really happy with his work.

Sweet - There's not many things that beat hearing a new exhaust system on your car for the first time and then it just keeps getting better as it carbons up a bit over the first few months.

Sweet, just picked it up today. I notice it's smoother and somewhat quieter though still quite loud with a good V8 rumble.

It'll take a bit of getting used to, there's something I'm a bit suss about, could be the cam's a bit too lumpy, perhaps it needs a tune but I'll wait till it beds in and I have a few more drives.

Still, I'm pretty happy with it.
