Thanks, some useful info, but we are getting off topic abit. Just wondering what colour the needles should be from original. Cheers.

stu i believe they are orange but over time and exposure to age and sunlight , normally go yellowish or just generally
dull off . maybe someone else can confirm this for you coz i am bias

Do you think anyone will notice that there are white numbers on the odometer when the digits on the instrument face are yellow?

Yeah, well all done, looks good. Took some pics, but not sure how to upload them to this thread. I ended up just giving the needles a light flick of paint, should be okay hopefully... Thanks guys.

The wieight of a needle doesn't even register on our electronic Kitchen scales (reading is 0 grams). A coat of paint on the needles will make no registerable difference to the instruments readings, these are automotive instruments not precision aircraft instruments.

hate to tell you this, but the paint will effect the tacho, been there done that years ago

Your not the only one Michael.

Many years ago I painted my lx needles, just a single coat of model paint with a fine brush. The only gauge that was affected was the tachometer, even with just a thin coat te needle became very slow and lazy and didn't read correctly, I wiped the paint off and it was perfect again.

Just adding couple of pics for you's, notice the very light flick of paint on tacho needle. Can hardly notice it when it is in place, and it works fine.

Thank Stu for those pics, are you guys just sticking those decals on over top of the old ones or removing the old stuff, if so how?

About what colour needles, my cluster has yellow needles (probably faded as suggested) except the combo gauges which are orange (ish) I think the yellow needles look better, though I have a mint AM wireless and the pointer on that is orange too with the yellow markings. So am thinking all the needles should be orange.

I sand blasted my fascias, primed and painted them black. Then stuck the decal on a fresh surface.

Stu, I'd be a little concerned about the direction that temp gauge is pointing.
When they're not operating all these gauges are meant to sit at approx. 90 degrees to each other - might be worth investigating before the cluster goes back into the car.
I repaired one of my gauges thanks to the following link - http://www.gmh-toran...r-dash-cluster/

Yeah, I noticed that too. When I sat the cluster in the car it lined up and is working good, just one of those weird things I guess...?

Hi everyone, just reviving an old thread for my own benefit, I have a white face tacho I bought to insert into the blank space for my yellow SLR cluster. The others have good colour and do not need a decal so my question is whether the tacho decal would be a noticeable difference in shade against the original speedo?

Also I seem to recall when looking at the tacho up close (sorry it is currently in the cluster for safe keeping), the needle cannot come off as it is one piece that goes into the guts of the tacho.??

Have a closer look at your tacho, all gauge needles can be removed. Just need to be careful not to strain or break anything.

Problem with removing needles from the speedometer and tachometer is putting them back in exactly the same spot.

I am sending it off for conversion for the electronic ignition but didn't want to fork out $250 if it ends up looking wrong. Does anyone know how close the colours are?

I am sure the shop will be happy to put the decal on.

Ah yes.. Been some months since I had my cluster in bits. Thanks for that one!

Is there any call for these blue lenses as I think we may have some.

Looking through this thread I notice that the decals look to be satin black where as the factory gauge is matt. Can anyone confirm this? I see there is a fella on ebay saying his decals are matt ... is there only one manufacturer?
