LJ XU-1 battery

I don't know why this ended up in Where should I buy so I'll try again

What Battery do all you XU-1 owners use and with what CCA. Trying to get as close to original as possible?

Hi

After looking around the best I could come up with was an Exide 310D 50RC. It has a 310cca rating which i guess is okay for a small battery.

Whatever brand you choose, it needs to be around 130mm wide and around 230mm long to fit the small battery carrier of the XU-1. The other important detail is that the negative post is to the front of the car and to the inside. I see a lot of cars with the terminals oriented incorrectly.

I have Century type 51, Ultra High Performance. Rated at 355 CCA. Fits in the XU-1 tray well, terminal size and polarity are good, Size 238 x 134 x 173

It is bright yellow though... Bazza's black Exide may better suit original look bay.

I've got one of those as well. You just have to ask them for the version with the terminals in the correct sense for the XU1; they make them either way. My car sits for a few weeks some times without being turned over, and I've never had a problem with it.

Agree, get type 51, type 53 is identical battery, opposite polarity ie negative at opposite end of battery to type 51, they are a good battery

I paid for my last one, about 6 months ago, $149.00 at Autobarn,

Did check Supercheap,but they didn't have that battery in stock and I needed one straight away

Just one more question and I'll leave you all alone. What would be the height from bottom of battery to top of battery post. The only reason I asked I've come across a battery with the right width and length with 400 cca.

173mm , should be, but I'll measure tomorrow. I also looked at higher CCA batteries, and found that they hit the bonnet due to the height

A friend of mine that lives in a frost hollow has a 430 CCA rated battery in his XU1 .

Still has the small battery tray fitted .

The height from bottom of battery case to top of battery terminals is - 210 mm .

There are no issues with bonnet to terminal clearance or arcing .

Original XU1 battery retainer , threaded rods and dimpled wing nuts fit too .

THE DOWNSIDE ------- Negative terminal is on passenger side , so a longer lead is required .

This thread is a little old now, I have searched for an Exide 310D 50RC like Bazza has however I don't think that Exide make them anymore. 

I am not real keen on a century yellow banana under the bonnet so was wondering if anyone has found a suitable battery for their XU1 

recently?

Check battery world for a yuassa mate, have them in 2 car's, more warranty, black & bigger cca. Don't know about them for torana, but have a look if you can.

57 battery is too wide if you are using an XU-1 size tray. Some makers quote 57 for XU-1 but they are too wide.

 

51 century will fit and terminals are correct. 53 will also fit the XU-1 tray but as you say terminals are incorrect.

 

Do autobarn have a type 51 width battery 130mm or thereabouts in the supercharge range?

What's the height of these batteries? There's 2 I can choose from, but 1 is approx 215mm overall height & I'm thinking this will be too tall.
