Anyway car drove back well no complaints there. Had another I dare say more thorough inspection and although the body is quite good I really need to tackle the rust which isnt a problem if I act sooner than later. Most concerning to me is the right hand hood mount where its bolted to the body, shine a torch in there and its concerning, otherwise right rear bottom quarter panel has a few bubbles, roof rails pretty good 1 spot requiring attention etc....
So Glass out, hood doors bonnet off rust repair and respray. There goes me 10k.
Motor goes well its obviously not standard, very lumpy cam, running a 350 holley but due to the factory air con box previous owner simply cut 33% of the air filter away - not very efficient like that - dont know why he bothered to put one on at all.
A new air filter is all Im doing now. Can anyone recommend a good rust/paint repair workshop in Sydney
Thanks for all your input peoples - it will remain a 6.

Let me know if you find one and be sure to start a build thread with plenty of photos. There's no 'members rides' sub-forum here so 'members projects and plans'?
If you ask the guys in the shop they should help out and take pics of the progress.

if you have ever been to a show where Pops has his stock SS it always attracts a crowd
Geeeeee RED, that's deflated my ego as I thought it was my good looks that drew the crowd
Duke has asked for comments and he sure has got a lot of them but when it all boils down to it, it is his car and he can do what he wants with it.
BUT an original 6cylinder SS is RARE and for the sports model Toranas like GTR, XU-1, SL/R and SL/R 5000, L34 and A9X then sticking to original is not only smart to retain its value but will preserve Torana history.
Shouldn't be that hard in getting a 6 with the right prefix that is close to what you want.
At Toranafest last year there may have been 6 to 10 original SS Hatchbacks out of 276 entrants, probably one of the Fest organisers can let us know exactly how many.
Most of you know my ideas on originality and they are not about to change.
Modify your S and SL models.

More to the point, will a stock as rock and restored SL attract the same sort of attention as its more popular siblings in the same condition?
Truth be told, YES!
As these models are also becoming rarer the pristine ones will draw attention just like any well restored EH, HR, etc.
It's because there were so many more made you have more opportunity to hot them up without killing off the heritage, there's enough around right now for both hotted up and stock restos but eventually they will also dry up.

My vote is for slotting a Nice 308 in it, M21 4 Speed and just drive it! Looks like a very neat, honest car!

I will spend far more time looking at a nice original base model than any flashy snooty "elite' model.
Cheers.
Are the cars "flashy snooty" models or is it the owners who are "flashy snooty"
I was virtually called an elitist by attending "Torana The Great" at Bathurst in 2004 in my LC GTR which was an event for the sporty model Toranas that were the basis for racing Toranas.
In other words, a celebration of Toranas in motor sport.
I think Big T sums it up quite well
I've been keeping my eye on a one owner LX 4-door 202/auto with 42Ks on it but I might be fighting a losing battle on this one.
