i think the car is awesome, love the colour and had a good look at it when it was first listed. dont worry about the purists, it was already molested when the original motor was changed. at the end of the day it is your car and your money and if you are prepared to change it around (motor, flairs etc) without any hard feelings then why the hell not? in my opinion though dont worry about the HT block as i dont think it will do anything in terms of performance or market value so save the extra cash and spend it on bolt ons.

I am no purist I'm just sick of seeing what are described as genuine GTR, XU1, SS and SLR ruined buy idiots these cars are not 20 year old desposable comoditys anymore and we should know better by now have a look on the net and try and find another hatch like this one then see how many modified ones are about, yeh there still a SS but I wonder what they were like before they were restored l have seen so many SS advertisers over the years and only a few I would consider spending my money on and this was one of them. I don't considered the non original 202 as molested its not ideal but it better then a injected 5,0L,cheers Aaron.

Well I drove the car back to Sydney today ( from melbourne ) followed him to the bank in the Torana 2 ks parked behind him turned around and theres a cop car came into the car park to f## me. Wanted the club rego book, wheres the entry he asks, owner responds its filled in copper says todays the 24th last entry 23rd, owner blames his watch calender and I can expect a court summons in the mail apparently. Fantasctic start.
Anyway car drove back well no complaints there. Had another I dare say more thorough inspection and although the body is quite good I really need to tackle the rust which isnt a problem if I act sooner than later. Most concerning to me is the right hand hood mount where its bolted to the body, shine a torch in there and its concerning, otherwise right rear bottom quarter panel has a few bubbles, roof rails pretty good 1 spot requiring attention etc....
So Glass out, hood doors bonnet off rust repair and respray. There goes me 10k.
Motor goes well its obviously not standard, very lumpy cam, running a 350 holley but due to the factory air con box previous owner simply cut 33% of the air filter away - not very efficient like that - dont know why he bothered to put one on at all.
A new air filter is all Im doing now. Can anyone recommend a good rust/paint repair workshop in Sydney
Thanks for all your input peoples - it will remain a 6.

Coppers are allways around when you dont want them lol, Keep it as a 6 Cyl, as they might be getting rare as the 5.0 Litre one, you would think these days

Let me know if you find one and be sure to start a build thread with plenty of photos. There's no 'members rides' sub-forum here so 'members projects and plans'?

If you ask the guys in the shop they should help out and take pics of the progress.

i think the owner should front the bill on that one if he filled it out wrong. copper was being a prick though, did you not tell him the car had just changed hands? it's not like you even need the club reg being a sydney car, why would you have falsified the book?

REDA9X

if you have ever been to a show where Pops has his stock SS it always attracts a crowd

Geeeeee RED, that's deflated my ego as I thought it was my good looks that drew the crowd

Duke has asked for comments and he sure has got a lot of them but when it all boils down to it, it is his car and he can do what he wants with it.

BUT an original 6cylinder SS is RARE and for the sports model Toranas like GTR, XU-1, SL/R and SL/R 5000, L34 and A9X then sticking to original is not only smart to retain its value but will preserve Torana history.

Shouldn't be that hard in getting a 6 with the right prefix that is close to what you want.

At Toranafest last year there may have been 6 to 10 original SS Hatchbacks out of 276 entrants, probably one of the Fest organisers can let us know exactly how many.

Most of you know my ideas on originality and they are not about to change.
Modify your S and SL models.

Regards ... Barry

Further to this and whilst I appreciate an unmolested "sports" model, how my S and SL's are out there in a good original format? More to the point, will a stock as rock and restored SL attract the same sort of attention as its more popular siblings in the same condition? Just posing the question really as I have an LX SL that is a perfect candidate for a restoration and at the ToranaFests Ive attended, I havnt seen many true blue, fair dinkum restorations of the "lessor" models.

I will spend far more time looking at a nice original base model than any flashy snooty "elite' model.

Cheers.

^ Which is the sort of boat Im in too DJ and hence my question. Not that I dont like the "elite" cars, I certainly do, I like all Torana's but there are far more restored SS\SLR's than there are restored SL\S models. For example, there was an Aquarius LX sedan at Tfest in 2009 that I spent ages pouring over simply because I just dont see good stock base models much.

That particular car was very nice indeed. Full credit to the owner.

Truth be told, YES!

As these models are also becoming rarer the pristine ones will draw attention just like any well restored EH, HR, etc.

It's because there were so many more made you have more opportunity to hot them up without killing off the heritage, there's enough around right now for both hotted up and stock restos but eventually they will also dry up.

Looks good mate! I was watching this one on eBay!

My vote is for slotting a Nice 308 in it, M21 4 Speed and just drive it! Looks like a very neat, honest car!

Are the cars "flashy snooty" models or is it the owners who are "flashy snooty"

I was virtually called an elitist by attending "Torana The Great" at Bathurst in 2004 in my LC GTR which was an event for the sporty model Toranas that were the basis for racing Toranas.

In other words, a celebration of Toranas in motor sport.

I think Big T sums it up quite well :iagree:

I've been keeping my eye on a one owner LX 4-door 202/auto with 42Ks on it but I might be fighting a losing battle on this one.
