Dragging up an old thread but I finally tried running a couple of tanks of 98 premium through the VZ S pack.

Running it on 91 ULP it averages between 16.5 and 17.2 (without using the A/C) depending if it does a bit of over 70k zone work or all 70k zone or less.

Most of my mileage is in the burbs.

To my surprise the 98 premium does actually give better fuel economy.

This is at just over 200km on the trip meter and the trip computer reckons there is another 200km left in the tank. Normally I average 320 km from a tank.

I don't think the extra expense of 18 cents per litre for 98 premium over 91 ULP is going to be recouped in the increased mileage though.

If its a standard 253, the compression ratio isent exactly high worst case have to retard the timing a couple of degrees.
High octane fuels burn slower which means more timing advance can be used.

What has that got to do with a VZ Alloytec 3.6 litre V6?

Haha, I don't treat it like a grandpa car but I don't scream it's guts out either.

It is a cab & chassis and has close to 1/2 a ton of gear on the back most of the time.

My apologies. I thought you were replying to my post not the OP made way back in July 2012.
