11/73 Adelaide build LJ Torana S.

Chassis and Body numbers align perfectly for the time period.

567-15332 is Cyan Metallic (Blue)

LD1 is the option code for the 2850cc (173ci) high compression 6cyl engine.

M40 is theTrimatic 3 spd auto transmission.

There should be a long skinny tag on the drivers side of the radiator support panel that has the VIN number on it.

Should be somewhere around 8B69DDL25779*J

82569CL175216 is a 4dr Torana SL completed at the Elizabeth assembly plant on the 07/05/1971.

All the numbers you have provided align for the build date.

The original engine number was H36129.

The car was optioned with a 161 high compression engine, M20 Opel 4sp transmission, front disc brakes and 3.08:1 conventional differential.

The body coulour as you have already stated is Electra Blue metallic and the interior colour is Twilight Blue with faux wood inlays in the door trims, the instrument fascia and lower instrument panel.

The car was sold by Dealer 068 Preston Motors, Albury, NSW during 05/71.

Electra Blue finished in production on the 28 June 1971 so the colour shown on this chart is representative of the colour of this car.

I might be able to move my LC out of it's current location in next few months so thought I'd see what info is available on it.

Has 2 out of 3 tags that look like never been off the car. Body number in guard is there.

The vin tag says 82311CL653802.

Other tag says 12/71 ALC39345A.

Looks like 1 of the last of the LCs.

Hi Guys, Im after some help, I've been looking at an LC 2-door and before I buy I want to make sure I'm not getting screwed.

The no's on the car look very different to what I've been seeing on other posts.  The seller is certain they are all original tags and it doesnt look like any of the tags have ever been off.

It only has 2 tags in the front left corner.  The body number on the tag doesnt match the number stamped on the actual body? Is this normal? I have photos if that helps.

VIN:82311C1144493

Model No. LC82311A

VIN:82311C1144493

It was originally optioned with LD1 161ci engine, M40 Tri-matic transmission, G92 2.78:1 ratio conventional differential and J52 front disc brakes.

Thanks Dave, did you mean 'C' instead of 'H'?  Is it normal for the body number not to match?

Sorry brain fade. 82311CH144493 is the VIN number. C = LC model series and H1 = Acacia Ridge assembly plant in Brisbane QLD.

The Body number on the Body ID Plate is the number below the Model number, it will be suffixed with a B meaning 'Brisbane'.

The body number normally will not match the VIN number on the PSN tag or the chassis number stamped into the left hand wheelhouse panel, and the chassis number will also not match the VIN number.

Hi all, Im looking at an LJ 2 Door, it has a compliance plate that matches the body number but doesnt come with VIN or build plate. I have been told I can register in Vic with just the body number (even though the car is in QLD now. My question is what does no VIN or build tag do to the value of the car? he’s definitely not letting it go for peanuts.

IMO, if it is a Torana S then the missing VIN tag and Body ID plate won't make a huge difference to the value compared to if it had all three tags. Perhaps a couple of K?

At the end of the day you have to decide what you believe the car is worth and if it suits your needs.

LC Torana S, Olive Green body paint with Sandlewood vinyl trim.

The chassis number and Body number place this car as most likely being completed in late August or early September 1971.

There appears to be quite a batch of Torana S built in this time frame, most are 2250, M15 or M40 and drum brakes.

Are you sure it is 82311CL185721?

82311CL183721 is the number I expected you to find on the PSN tag.

Yes the long skinny tag has the Model Number followed by the Production Serial Number (PSN)

The number on the Compliance Plate is the chassis number and it must match the number stamped into the left hand wheelhouse panel.

The Body number is contained on the Body Identification Plate, along with the model number, paint and trim information.

Gotcha. The compliance plate number matches the inner guard number. ALC34374A.
The only obvious one is the model, LC82311.
