OK,

I think this TAG belongs to the RAT after all:-

Model -  LC82369 = 4 door 'S' which matches the VIN so far.

Paint - 568-11401 = Kashmir White 1969 colour

Trim - 1192-41-E = is this Black Vinyl?

Body no. - 1196-A = ?

Attached File  69 RAT PAINT TAG 001.jpg   91.32K   4 downloads

thank's in Advance for anymore help here.

Hi Dave

Trim 41-E is Gold not Black

I don't have any reference points for the Body Number 1196 - A but I can say it is a fairly low number consistent with a late 1969 build.

Cheers

Great Work Bazza thank's,

Gold, just Gold.

Well, the RAT will have a  'Gold Trim ' theme now

Dave I'm pretty sure the black arm rests were a goldy colour underneath, they'd just been painted.

Do you have them?

And AFAIK the tags were original.

Finally collected a LJ sedan that I've had tucked away for a few years, I've managed to decode part of what this car originally was but am missing a couple of pieces (can't find a definitive list of all Torana codes on the net). The engine bay has been resprayed & the tags are difficult to read in places, any assistance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated

so, what I think the tags say is:

VIN: 82369 J L2 05624 (4 door six cyl 'S', LJ, Adelaide build)

Model: LJ 82369 (4 door six cyl 'S')

Body: 1569-A (????)

Trim: 1839-48 E (???) From what I've read E=All vinyl as is found on 'S' models

Paint: 568-13890 (Royal Purple)

I can't really read much on the bottom of the ADR/safety plate but the manufacture date looks like 0?/72 & the middle code looks like L85

The car looks to have originally been a 3 spd manual (based on the column) with 4 wheel drums.

Hi

The VIN indicates that you have an S Model 4 door LJ completed on 16/6/72 in Adelaide and sold by dealer 452 (Cheney Northern Motors Pty Ltd - 1263 Sydney Rd, Fawkner Vic) during August 1972. The original engine number was CD168091, (173ci 2850cc). The car originally had a 3 speed manual transmission, drum brakes all round and a 3.08:1 conventional differential. The colour is Royal Purple with Flax vinyl interior.

1569-A simply means that it is the 1569th 4 door 6 cylinder body completed at the Adelaide plant.

Do you have a Chassis Number? It appears on the ADR tag and stamped into the inner guard on the passenger side.

Cheers

Bazza

many thanks Bazza, it's a bit hard to read in the photo's I took due to paint build up and the car isn't at my house. If the chassis number is above the seating capacity it looks like: ALJ 07354A (is that the correct format?)

Hi

That Chassis Number appears to be correct for the build date.

I bought the vin disc thingo a couple of years ago on that e-net thing. Couldn't understand any of it?

Was like looking at a Channel 10 test pattern?

Last seen under the leg of the kitchen table to level it.

Hi Caustic

You have an LC S Model 2 door completed in Adelaide on 14 July 1971 and sold by dealer 433, H C Dustings Pty Ltd - 314 Toorak Rd. Burwood Vic., during August '71. The original engine number was CD6028. It left the factory with a 2850cc (173cid) engine, 4 speed manual transmission, front wheel disc brakes and a 3.08:1 conventional differential.

You will need to provide the details that appear on the Body Identification tag for the colour and trim information.

Cheers

Many thanks Bazza, You done well mate, more info than I expected. Sorry mate but the body id tag is long gone. The car was fitted with bonnet pins which I removed and  rectified last year. I'm guessing they drilled through that tag , then just threw it the bin. shame. Least now I know how it was constructed. Thanks again. Im gratefull.

Is there any way to get paint and trim codes from remaining 2 tags if the body id tag is missing?

Hi Blair

S Model 2 door completed in Perth on 17/8/70 and used internally by GMH Perth.

You might want to check the trim codes again because 12207 is Marina Blue and the interior trim 46F is Green. Perhaps the body colour is 12202 - Cascade Green?

The car left the factory with a 161ci (2600cc) engine (number not listed but would be in the 2600H20xxx to 22xxx range, trimatic transmission, front wheel disc brakes and a 2.78:1 ratio cenventional diff.

Cheers

I just checked the trim code and it is definitely 12207.

Bazza, please check the records again.

I read L635715 as a 2 door S with 138, 3 on the tree, drum front brakes, 3.08 conventional differential and sold by Dealer 822 in 9/70.

Cheers

Dave.

Hi Blair

Sorry. Dave's correct. I was reading the details of the car below yours (big night last night) :) The trim details are correct - I still can't imagine a green car with blue interior. Maybe the 46F is 48F - Sandalwood?

Sorry about the mixup. Glad Dave's always there to double check.

Cheers
