Hi

 

L156927 appears on the VIN disc as a 4 door, SL model 6 cylinder, completed in Adelaide on 23/7/70 and sold by Freeman Motors P/L. Grenfell St, Adelaide the following month. There is no engine number recorded, but the original would be in he 2600H18xxx to 2600H20xxx. The vehicle left the factory with a 2250cc (138 ci) engine, a trimatic transmission, drum brakes all round and a 2.78:1 conventional differential. The original colour was Florentine Gold Metallic with Sandalwood interior. All the tag numbers are consistent with the competition date.

Sorry about the delay (been in hospital) I thought someone would have picked it up fairly quickly.

 

S Model 4 door completed in Adelaide on 5/3/73 and sold by E H Hage P/L of Tanunda SA. The original engine number was CD293835. 173 engine, 3 speed manual transmission, drum brakes all round and a 3.08:1 ratio conventional differential. Russet body colour with Chestnut interior trim.

All three tags are from an Adelaide built body which is a good start.

 

PSN 82311L175896 relates to a Torana S 2dr Sedan that was completed on the 12/05/1971 at the Elizabeth VAP in SA.

 

There is no engine number recorded however this Torana S was optioned with a 2600cc (161ci) H/Comp engine, Trimatic 3spd transmission, 2.78:1 conventional differential and drum brakes all round. 

L175896 was sold during 8/71 by Dealer 129   Motors Ltd, Hobart TAS.

 

 

Body id tag says ..

Model 82311             

Body No. 4056-A   I don't have enough body numbers from this period to say with confidence however the paint colours used on the vehicle this body tag came off are consistent with mid 1st half of 1971.

I will hazzard a guess and say I believe body number 4056-A will be from the 4th or 5th month 1971.

                             

Trim: 1329  two tone DK Olive & Glacier White  46f  Venetian Green Vinyl

Paint: 568-13140     Dark Olive     -   Body

Top: 568-13134       Glacier White -   Roof

 

Chassis Number: LC29083A  (which matchs number on inner guard) Again I don't have a lot of Adelaide chassis numbers from around this period however 29083A should be consistent with a 5/71 build.

Check the date on the Compliance Plate it should be 5/71.

 

Have a look at the back of the Compliance Plate. It should have the last 4 digits of the PSN scratched on the back.

I thought the last 6 digits on the skinny tag should match the body number on paint and trim tag ? On a 10/73 Brisbane car YES but on a 10/73 Adelaide car NO.

 

The numbers stamped from under side on skinny tag and numbers stamped on paint trim tag are stamped from the top side . Is this correct ? Yes correct for an Adelaide car.

8B11LDL256365J is an LJ Torana S 2dr Sedan completed at the Elizabeth VAP in S.A on the 29/10/1973 and sold during 11/73 by Dealer 445 (Gary & Warren Smith 1575 Dandenong Rd  VIC)

The original fitment engine number is L425275.

The car was optioned with a 3300cc H.Comp engine, trimatic 3spd transmission, front disc brakes and 2.78:1 ratio std differential.(as indicated by the BETSBAC on the vehicle master listing and the options on the Body ID plate).

The body colour is Sable Metallic and the interior vinyl trim is Cinnabar (looks sort of like a Cadbury chocolate brown)  

The three tags appear to be a matching set.

 

NB: This car should have been manufactured to comply with ADR 27 although the ADR number does not appear on the compliance plate.

Looking at buying another Lj but it has no tags that we can find, only inner guard number. Any info you can provide for the number would be much appreciated. It is BLJ50634B.

Book I have says 82311 is a 6 cyl, 2dr "S" if that helps any
