Hey all.

Noticed quite a few of these popping up on ebay, m20's and m21's. All claiming new engineering making them stronger etc.

Has anyone any experience with any of these?

Who makes the best recon all aussie?

i need 1 for a six and maybe one for an eight.

Thoughts?

Have not heard good things about the bloke selling them. They take forever to get to you. He keeps changeing his trading name to keep good feedback score

Hi Welby,
If you mean gearboxes being sold by "Australian 4 speed Specialists', aka (E-Bay) 'trade_bargains', aka (GMH_Tornana forum) 'aussie4speeds', aka 'Peter Zitiris' of Kennedy Avenue, Belmore (Sydney) NSW http://www.freewebs....eds/aboutme.htm
Be careful - don't take the 100% E-Bay feedback rating seriously.
I am told his work is often pretty good, but his ethics, his workplace and indeed himself are a long-long way from clinical and well turned out - don't let the sexy website photos fool you.
Never give him $ up front, not even a deposit, and be prepared for time-lines to blow-out whilst being issued with recycled excuses - the ubiquitous tell-tale signs of a serial liar.
I can speak from experience here, and I just hope like hell the M21 I have from him will be decent when I finally put a motor behind it and get my car moving - one day...
The story I have in what it took to get the box from him and what I saw when I collected it will make you hair curl!
Cheers, TB

Happy to help Welby, and sorry he is Peter Zitis not Zitiris - Google is your friend...
Like I said, some have suggested his work is pretty good but having seen where and how he works and lives, I cannot imagine this to be the case...though I cross my fingers this is so given I bought my gearbox from him.
And like lcxu105 says, I am sure he used to have a different E-Bay trading name than 'trade_bargains' and I suggest one can reasonably allude to why he felt the need to change it though I am absolutely certain he has an excuse likely to do with it being necessitated by someone else's conduct at the ready...
Cheers, TB

If it's just for a streeter (6) the standard kit will do the job. You can buy H/Duty front and rear mainshaft bearings from a bearing shop. (More balls in the race)..... Kit, about $100, H/D bearings $15-$20 each.

It's all about keeping the gears in mesh and keeping the mainshaft in line..

Horsepower is the biggest threat to an Aussie along with sudden loads.

If your taking quags comment as a personal attack on the lad who build your box then your dead right in your comments

But saying that a "backyarder" cant do the same or better job as a "pro" is a bit of a stupid comment.

Wonder why im building a holden six for a lad right now when two local engine builders and two full house engine shops had a go and couldnt put anything together??

So many people in the car industry make big promises but cant deliver it takes a while to find the right people to do the right job and yes there is guys that do backyard work that are good but i go with what i know and its not backyard warriors simple as that

I agree with bomber. A bit of care to do the job properly yourself often results in a better finish in the end. This is pretty much the reason why I do all my own work in my car. Most shops simply don't give a fr0ck

Not having a dig ice. I know of a few guys that definitely know their shit and thorough. All small wshops tho or one man bands

Great Topic,
When you do mechanical jobs yourself you get better at them the more you do,
and when you pull something apart you look closely for wear marks etc so that would be the cause or a problem if any. Dave I

for your info guys I was never traded bargains or a east spares ever I was Padstow auto wreckers for 25 years. and on eBay I am petes-automotive-services now I have had that same account since 2008. go ahead check it out and the feedback is perfect 100 %look guys I never ripped anyone off ever am a straight shooter and as for that guy in Canberra, I gave him a fresh box 4 years later since 2012. I work very hard getting orders ready I work long hours into the night finishing boxes for customers. if I wasn't good at what I do I would have no work. but I have that much work these than what I did back then especially now that the Aussie boxes are getting harder to find new parts for them. I have the T5 specialists in Sydney as well making T5 boxes fit into a Torana without cutting the floor or subframe a mustang tail works best.I am 1 of only a few that do full conversions for any car these days holden ford Chrysler and jag as well so. if  I was no good then why am i still doing  gearboxes  around the clock 7 days a week these boxes cost me my marriage  .but I am still doing them it is now 1:20 am I am doing a V8 M21 even now as I write this so it must mean I am one of the best transmission specialists in the country. I am no thief nor a criminal I have no convictions for anything and to the forum I want anything with my name or business name in any thread removed immediately. as I am sick of the reflection that it has and is causing me a headache in my business questioning my work and reliability to trust me and my work. I think enough is enough that was the past let's leave it there and move forward the defence rests  .......

This is brilliant.

I have never seen a paragraph like this written as a single sentence...

Entertaining at least.
