I had a look at that VL on youtube, it's a fair effort to build it in one year but I would like to know if its been engineered.

Added some more strengthening to the front suspension towers to make sure the load is transferred back to the rail where the original subframe mounted.

Have contacted a few engineers to see if they were interested in taking on the project. I've chosen one, now I have to reassemble the car

so he can see where it's at and where to move forward from here. Hopefully he will look at it in a few weeks.

Last I heard it's still registered as a commodore whatever that means.

Greenslip check will tell if engineered etc

After a week Bonneville replied to my email. I'm going to get Peter Turner from Teched Australia to have a look at it on the 29th.

Had the engineer, Peter Turner  http://www.techedaustralia.com.au/ have a look at the project.

He is happy with what has been done, he wants an extra brace between the rear suspension towers and I

have to have retractable seat belts for the outer back seats. The car will have to pass the IM240 emission test

and also have a torsional rigidity test. The plan now is to get the car ready for the torsional test then

start the panel work.

Rear seat belts something like this.

I haven't looked at the regs but it's interesting that retractable rear seat belts are required, although I was thinking about doing the same anyway so watching with interest.

Doesn't the inertia reel part have to be designed for a certain range of mounting angle? And did he give you any guidelines as to how the inner quarter would need to be reinforced to an acceptable standard for mounting the reel?

Another question, does Peter have a set of standard Torana or generic minimum results for beaming and torsion tests? I thought the actual car had to be tested prior to any mods to establish a baseline for final testing... a 'so long as it's as good as it was when you started' kinda deal?

I was thinking about making my own test rig but the thought of buying a dozen-odd dial indicators is a little off-puting...

Peter said the seat belts needed to be upgrade because of the power increase. APV-S seat belts make different reals

that work at different angle. http://www.apvsafety...pose-seat-belts

I don't know if he has any torana standards for the torsion test he may just use the 4000Nm per degree for ICV's.

He had no doubts it would pass.

Made up some bars to replace the coilovers for the torsion deflection testing. Hopefully will get the test done in a few weeks.

If you're replacing the coilovers with those solid struts, I'd at least try and install some bushes up the top for some better compliance. Ride quality might be a bit poor.

Love your work mate!

Hmm... not sure whether that was a serious suggestion or tongue-in-cheek Heath? The solid struts/spring eliminators are only used for the beaming and torsion tests, you need to eliminate any suspension movement (including tyres) so you can accurately measure how far the body flexes under the various loads.

Heath is always serious  :P but it would be fun to see how it handled on a skid pan with these in.

Decided to mount the seat belt reel besides the back seat so they don't stand out as much.
