Yes before you all start i know there was no LX GTR but what if i made one but the GTR part was from a different car maker.

Now you're thinking what's this idiot on about, before you read on if you don't like to see torana's modified beyond the norm look away now.

So the idea is to take a LX hatch and a nissan R32 gtr skyline and mix them together. From the outside it will look like a LX hatch with flares

but underneath it will be the R32 AWD with a rb26/30. I've already run the idea past an engineer who has given the go ahead.

To start with i'm setting the running gear up in an old rusty shell before i start cutting up the hatch.

The R32 GTR shell i'm using for parts.

76lxhatch, the wheel track between the two is very close, but to keep the engineer happy i am using the wheel track from a A9X/L34

which is about 1470mm front and 1443mm rear and comparing it to the nissan GTS4 which is 1460mm front and back. Below are dimension

between a LX and a GTR, you can see they are physically about the same size.

Baron i did look at adapting the skyline front diff/sump to a 308 but was going the create to many problems.

  • LX Exterior Dimensions (Hatch):
    • Total Length: 4509mm
    • Total Width: 1704mm
    • Total Height at kerb weight: 1326mm
    • Wheelbase: 2586mm
    • Front Track: 1400mm
    • Rear Track: 1372mm
  • Kerb Weight:
    • 1143 to 1325kg
  • Turning Circle:
    • 11 metres
  • R32 Exterior Dimensions :
    • Total Length: 4545mm
    • Total Width: 1755mm
    • Total Height at kerb weight: 1340mm
    • Wheelbase: 2615mm
    • Front Track: 1480mm
    • Rear Track: 1480mm
  • Kerb Weight:
    • 1430kg
  • Turning Circle:
    • 10.6 metres

Cool, I assumed that you wouldn't be altering the track from the GTR but had no idea what the wheelbase difference was - less than 30mm difference so no significant issues there, will basically handle like a lightweight GTR!

Awesome Idea, if well executed this will be a really unique car. Not to mention an absolute weapon on the track!

There was one done years ago, it was an early commodore with a r32 godzilla transplant done. He cut out the entire floor of the skyline and grafted it into the commodore. 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steer. It was black from memory

There was a story he built 2 but i think only one was built, i think from memory it cost somewhere between $100,00 and $150,000 and

some of parts came from one of the gibson motorsport crashed gtr's. I've see the car a few times, the last time was in 2008 when it was still for

sale. There is another vl commodore around with a r33 rear end. This one. http://www.driftshop.../nissanirs.html
