could not help but read this from start to finish that's amazing.Your workmanship and attention to detail is amazing mate.

I new a guy who had something to do with the commodore build awd, Said the guy spent over 150 grand on it and it was a VL commodore?

The guy I got the information off liked to embellish the truth a little.

Never seen the car but apparently it used to like to break blocks often.

Altho you can fix those problems these days with some gear from RIPs in NZ.

I have a widebody 33/34 gtr that's been a work in progress I need a handy mechanic lol  spent 40g on the motor :( sad state of affairs

Hi Glen,

I have a question with regards to the VDO speedo gauge conversion you did, that I am copying for my own car.

I'm up to soldering two wires onto the back of the push switch.

I noticed that the push switch is 4 pole, but you have only wired on two of the poles.

Does these two wires, still make the calibration function work on the VDO speedo?

I.e., can you still get into the calibration functions, to set the speedo up to the correct road speed?

On a side note, I thought I was quite clever when I found two cars on this forum, using the same speedo conversion, until I realizes...it...was...the...SAME person who owned both cars.

Me so smart. :-)

Hi Steven, from memory only 2 of the poles on the switch are used. This allows you to wire a remote push button so you can calibrate and  use the trip meter.

I can't believe I have never seen this thread before........  Just had a look at the whole thing...   Your metal fabrication skills are first class, and the skill and patience it takes,  to do what you have done is beyond compare..  anyone who has ever done pipe work knows how hard it is to get all those angles right,  and without large gaps that make the welding process harder, as well as making the whole job distorted..

The work you did on the chassis was just incredible...  your foresight into what was required and the skill in making it work, was what keep me wanting to see what you did next..

Glen,  if I was a Metal Fabrication Tech Teacher, I would be showing my students your workmanship...  Your project perfectly demonstrates the level of quality that can be achieved by giving 100% attention to preparation, setup,  and in the pride that it generates by building a quality finished product.

Cheers Mate, and Merry Christmas ....  :)

Thanks for the kind words, update time. Finished off the LX sedan, stopped work on the HT, new motor in the purple hatch just waiting to get it tuned

and gave the panel van some love.

So brought some recaro SR2 seats which will get re-trimmed, made up a dolly to make it easier to move it around and started to set the panel

gaps and flares which will need some work.

Ended up getting some Achilles 265/35 18 sport 2's to set up the flairs, the front flairs are going to need a lot of work.

I  think I will need to cut them and extend the height to allow for when the wheels are turned and suspension travel.

They look very cool, but do you really need that bigga rim?

My very limited motorsport expericence has shown me a smaller rim with a bit more sidewall is generally preferable unless your a top gun driver? MOre sidewall gives a bit more give, to a point?

Just askin....

One of the reasons I need to run 18's is to clear the front brakes and it was easier the find a wheel with the right off set in 18's than 17's.

Love the fighter-jet teeth - it suits this animal! Can't wait to see it spinning all four wheels. Reminds me of that mental Ken Block Mustang (link below), only better 'cos it's a Torana. :-)

Maybe you could try the wide rear Hornet flairs for hatches, mod them with parts of the front flair to join t the front spoiler? You would probably need a section in the middle to make them longer?

For a man of your talents that shouldn't be too hard. I ended up chopping mine up just to fit the 15x8s.

Started extending one of the front flares, thought I would try the tape and bog trick.

Cut the bottom off the flare and screwed both parts to the guard.

IMGP2976_resize_zpsl9i1vl9u.jpg

Attached File  IMGP2976_resize.JPG   133.76K   6 downloads

Put masking tape across the two.

IMGP2977_resize_zpsi4z87efj.jpg

Attached File  IMGP2977_resize.JPG   123.74K   6 downloads

Mixed up some bog and towelled over the tape and also cut some tig filler rod that I pushed into the bog to give it some extra support.

IMGP2978_resize_zps1jeezlhq.jpg

Attached File  IMGP2978_resize.JPG   132.85K   6 downloads

After the bog was dry I remover the flare and fibreglassed the inside.

IMGP2980_resize_zps8ymrjruz.jpg

Attached File  IMGP2980_resize.JPG   144.32K   6 downloads

Still needs a lot of work but should come up ok.

And good job making it work over such a big gap! It should look awesome with the flares extended up that far, will add to the impression of low stance and big wheels
