I understand the dilemma of farmers well.
I used to work for a couple of dairies.
They were actually quite profitable businesses until NSW deregulated the industry.
One farmer took the incentive offered to get out.
Farmers were given a "loan". If they got out of the industry it didnt have to be repaid.
If they remained, it had to be paid back.
The second farm battled it out for a while, but in the end, buying hay at 15k a month and paying 15k a quarter for irrigation power during the drought brought it down.
Developers bought his property and he leases it back running beef cattle now.
Only does that to keep his daughter in work and to have something to whinge about I reckon.
When they closed it took my best earner away from me and even I had to look at other work options.
Its a hard game no matter what the enterprise.
