Definitely agree with Chris about the lack of dish and potential for some very cool modular jap wheels.
This is awesome though by the way. I really enjoy looking at what you've done on this project.

The problem with the front flairs are I was hoping to run 265/40r17 all round on some 9" rims, the wheels in the picture are
just some 235/45r17 that were on the skyline. With the r32 front suspension it is not easy to dial in more camber.
With the all wheel drive system you should run the same size wheels all round but I might get away with running a 235/45r17 front and
265/40r17 rear or 245/35r18 front and 285/30r18 rear.

Not true - you only need to run the same size if you are running the same diff ratios.
Or in otherwords if you want to run larger rear tyres then you just have to run a lower (higher numerical) diff ratio. You will have to work out what size tyres go with what diff ratio to make sure they are both doing the same road speed at the same revs. Shouldn't be too hard to do - in fact I have an excel spreadheet that will do exactly that for you

I had an idea to do this exact conversion to my LJ a few years back but peopel laughed at the idea when i spoke of it, im really happy to see someone doing it with a Torrie and with amazing skill, its going to be an absolute weapon.

I know the feeling - people ridiculed me when I was tossing up ideas and was considering doing a Subaru WRX AWD conversion.

THats because you wanted to use two engines!!!
Posted 13 August 2013 - 08:12 PM
Yeah I thought of the Subaru engine also.

This project gets 200% of my admiration. Thinking outside the typical performance, handling box while remaining true to the look and feel of a torana is what is very important (to my thinking). Vastly improving performance (stop,go,turn) and bringing a hatch into 2013 is imo a goal worth achieving.

hehehe you would being a Subie nut - but did you think of twin Subie engines ? Pretty sure they don't fit though as the chassis rails are just a smidge too close together.
I'm still debating what to do with my hatch - gotta fix the rust first of course - have thought about the R32 gear but decided too expensive and possibly too hard although this build is making it look easy(ish).
My 2 other options are Toyota/Lexus Soarer/LS400 as the front & rear subframe/suspension look like they will be fairly easy to make fit and then the corresponding 1UZ or 2JZ will bolt straight in.
Although my preferred option is a car that is renowned for exemplary racetrack handling, is double wishbone front and rear and from my initial measurements will almost line up perfectly with the Torana subframes/chassis rails - the FD series (1992-2006) RX7 - without the rotary motor though as I have been shot to pieces once before for contemplating that
Anyway back on-topic - this car will be AWESOME when its finished - good work !!

Bit more done, welded in the extra bracing on the adapter plates and started stripping the skyline.

The engineer didn't want the rails modified so I made the adapter plates bolt on.

Cut the tunnel out of the skyline, it made me a little sale to destroy such a nice car.
Also talked to the engineer about track width and tyre and rims sizes, found out rim size is now determined by taking the
widest tyre offered and increasing it but 30% then use the tyre fitment guide and see what rims suit that tyre.
Since i'm using the skyline suspension and sub frame I can use the skyline track width and tyre/wheel combination.
So R32 gtr had a 225/50r16 I can run up to a 285 on the front and the R33 had a 245/45r17 which works out to being up to a 315.
But I can only change the track width by 25mm.

Was there anything 'wrong' with the skyline before? It did look very tidy in your pictures.
Posted 21 August 2013 - 08:02 PM
There was nothing wrong with the skyline, it did develop a knock in the motor a few weeks after I brought it.
I did buy it to cut it up because it was cheaper than buying a crashed GTR.

the nissan GTS4 which is 1460mm front and back. Below are dimension
- R32 Exterior Dimensions :
- Total Length: 4545mm
- Total Width: 1755mm
- Total Height at kerb weight: 1340mm
- Wheelbase: 2615mm
- Front Track: 1480mm
- Rear Track: 1480mm
Your build under NCOP? I take it you have left wheel mounting face to face widths standard skyline? What are those front and back mounting measurements? By what you have said when adding wheels the wheel track must be skyline up to +25mm i.e. up to a max of 1485mm or 1505mm?
A 285mm front and 315mm rear tyre legally is a nice combo.
Posted 22 August 2013 - 09:35 AM
1485mm or 1505mm just happens to be A9X track under NCOP, should work out great.
Posted 22 August 2013 - 12:30 PM
Victoria doesn't operate under NCOP

I will be using the R32 gtr front track width for the front and the R33 gtr track width for the back.
Maximum front track will be 1480+25= 1505 and rear 1490+25= 1515, so I can't run more than a +17.5 off set rim.
Standard gtr off set was +30.
Sorry Peter you need to look at the current vic roads VSI 8, I noticed last October it is now also referring
to VSB 14 aka NCOP. http://www.infrastru...n/vsb_ncop.aspx
So vic roads have been sneaky and have there own guide lines and also refer to NCOP.
