funny really a new windscreen is $350. bills the rear screen was $400.plus freight and tax but that's what rocking horse shit is i guess but now i have all my glass rather have it than not tho

Hey Aaron, just call my mate Jeff (Jeffs Fibreglassing & Fabrication) & he does the fibreglass bumpers & they're only about $100 each he said.

He's based in Tuakau so pretty handy for you, & if you're after doors have a chat with him as I can loan him mine to get moulds off if it works out cheaper for you in the long run (my passenger one just needs some work done to it first).

His number is 021 108 6869, & I said you'd probably be giving him a call.

Here's his f/b page as well:

Hope it works out for ya  :D

In your set-up to mount a cut off radiator support panel you would have to use panel gaps

Doors to fender to plenum panel

Fenders to bonnet to nosecone

One of the things I learnt when doing full chassis is its a painful lot of fit unfit, change it around then fit then unfit (then curse). Its best to cut it out once nailed down on a non movable levelled work skid, and then welding in enough excessive braces on all the bits that will stay. You have to stop everything moving because as I have found a few mm's here and a few mm's there can lead you to excessive drinking and expensive breakages as you throw things around the workshop. (well for me anyhow).... LOL

As per this camaro its a matter of getting the panel gaps and levels right then working out permanent mounting systems.

The front of the Torana fenders and nosecone all bolt to the radiator support, and the bonnet catch pins the centre of the nosecone to the top radiator support panel. But its all about getting it bolted up as the panels will dictate and then balancing the gaps. Obviously perfect min gaps require work but your not dictated as much as a factory chassis. These unibody things have too many variances because of tolerances, years of twists, distortions etc.

To even attempt to transfer measurements like say the nosecone/rad support height from one of my hatchs you would end up in real trouble.

i think what i was trying to asking was from back to front if you ran a string line what is the difference is it 100mm or more or less

i have quite a bit of flex in the glass guards probable 50mm.

thats a cool workshop and car

i am off to cut and fold my fuel tank today

cheers

Yes obviously when I started cutting out the whole car besides composite panels I also have steel panels which hold their shape. With the edges being ridged I am able to square the panel via the gap from front fenders to door. That then gives you a chance to work out a set of temp holding props. At the start you simply must have quite a few sting lines and a few of those quality hanging line levels that you clip onto the string line. Slide along to make sure your line is tight and straight. I also run a laser line level on a triprod and with the different heads and stuff I can set it up and follow a body line or height from the one level point to any point along the car. It really helped when I replaced the 1/4 panels and outer sills to get them all spot welded in.

I have to walk away during summertime as it is too testing in hot weather for an old bloke. It is really slow and tedious getting it all back square when you don't have any of the standard factory fixing points, but that's the price of a full chassis, repositioned firewall and new floor. Lost count of how many times something is on then off then on again its frightening.

I am actually surprised you didn't do what I am doing and push the firewall back to move the main weight back. Even for drag racing it would help in f-r weight transfer.

Aaron ... did I notice workshop muddy footprints ... was it another kiwi party weekend ...  i.e. lets catch a girlfriend.

Those poor old kiwi sheep have no chance  .... every-time they hear a noisy kiwi party followed by the Haka and then the sight of many sets of gum boots picking up speed .... its little wonder their bum tightens as they are running for their lives. ..... :clappin:

What fuel pump and delivery set-up are you planning on using?? Fuel economy (and rear tyre wear) is certainly not going to be some of your torana's better features .... LOL

Aaron what fuel do you plan on using?

Sort of reminds me of our old 80's solution of "hell lets just hit it with  bigger hammer".

BBC where always a shoehorn job but we never once thought about twin turbo's and 4".... LOL thank god you don't try to put all that under a bonnet. Boy that just fills whatever limited space you have.

All very subtle
