The set that i am about to recondition have the ram flow style dome elements however the foam is about knackered and one of the plastic cages that sits under the element is missing.
I am about to order the rebuild kits from Midel and noticed that they sell the foam replacement elements ($14 each i think)
Are these style of air filters worth while doing anything with?? (power loss, filtering capabilities etc)

I would think socks on trumpets woudl work a little better than those dome ones, but im toying with the idea of cutting and glueing a truck air filter together, about 4" deep and one continuous thing in going around all the SU's, with backing plate over the trumpets and a front cover plate, if that makes sense, picture a big ass oval around all the carbs.
Cheers.

Thinking that individual socks or dome elements are gonna be fairly restrictive once you oil them.
K&N do some nice stuff and most probably make something that you could adapt to one large filter set up.
Some one would have dyno results with different types of filters i would think.
Will be going onto a road going car so some sort of filtration will have to be used.

I also run a stub stack on each carb inlet underneath the air filter. Just fits in there!

That said, it was tuned wthout them.
I ran little round individual k&n aircleaners on my su's, now on the strommys ik n the xu1.
might be worth looking at the unifilter "sheets" to make what your after bomber.
We used to use sheets and blocks to make the foam acleaner for the v8 dirt modified and the srintcars

Not su's, but putting foam uni filters on the weber trumpets makes the thing run like balls.

I've used that stuff to make air cleaners for sports bikes before, still have a little laying around, as well as the propper oil....
BUT, at the end of the day, i prefer paper.
Cheers.

I think Midel have some long trumpets left,I need short trumpets to clear the inner fender so i had to order some from England,Still waiting on them.At the moment i'm using the lynx ram flow filters without oil in the foam to keep the birds out ,they ritchen the a/f ratio by about .5.is there any type of Trumpets available for 2 inch SU's anywhere?

www.piercemanifolds.com
If I use foam filters on my Webers they run too fat as with Micks SU'S.

As has been already mentioned the foam are not the best at filtering, but they fit & my car is no longer a daily driver & I didn't want to try & fit a box on the carbs with 3" trumpets inside.
