I have been asked if they will suit SBC, I think the accessories bolt holes on the head is different but I will double check the hole spacing.

When you say standard factory extractors you mean for the commodore ?

How do they sit in the engine bay / k frame / firewall regarding clearance.

 

certainly appears to be plenty of room.

 

I'm currently waiting on that yank mob that andy put me onto for the uni joint adaptor. 

 

only info missing re the brackets is the cost of the pump.

Hi Welby, yes the extractors are from the commodore. I didn't do any mods to the drivers side extractor, and only a small mod to the left one as it got close to the rail at the collector.

 

I didn't include the prices on the pump as I am waiting for my supplier to confirm the current cost.

I can also supply brand new genuine Sagnal power steering pumps. There is a Chinese knock of copy which is cheaper by around $65.00 which I can also supply on request, or I can reco your pump if you have a spare one floating around. I personally would go the new Genuine Sagnal pump but if your on a budget the choice is yours.

Do you mean Saginaw brand pumps, (not Sagnal).

It does look that way.

 

These pumps are made by the same division of GM as the Saginaw gearboxes, as seen in HK/T/G V8s.

The Variable ratio rack I use is mechanical variable. The teeth cut on the main rack shaft between the centre section and outer ends sections are machined so the teeth are at different varying angles. The varying angles of the teeth allow the rack ratio to increase as the steering wheel is turned towards left or right lock. The benefit of this design is to reduce the total turns lock to lock without making it to quick/direct in the centre section. To quick a ratio in the straight ahead position can cause oversteer: (example) at high speed on the freeway.

 

The standard ratio rack has the steering rack shaft teeth machined straight cut across the entire gear teeth engagement section. 

 

Below are the two racks both look the same from the outside. The bottom rack in the photo is standard ratio and the upper is the variable ratio. Its not the best photo showing the variable ratio rack shaft, but if you look closely you can see the centre section four teeth are straight then either side they start to angle over and the teeth pitch changes. You can also see how many more teeth there are on the standard ratio main rack shaft in comparison. Its a hard thing to explain but I hope the photos give you a better understanding.

 

The standard ratio rack has approximately 3.3 turns & variable ratio 2.8 this depends slightly on which steering arms are used. Both racks also give you around three degrease more wheel lock each side reducing the Torana's total turning circle. 

 

I hope I have explained it well enough and haven't confused everyone.

I know this is not what the topic is
What model was the sr5 hilux you used for the aircon retro fit to your hatchback
In 1997 there was a change in that year with the hilux
So any info would be good , like what engine was in the vehicle or early 1997 you get the idea

Haven't supplied one of this application yet but if it has the same mounting points and clearances that of the standard K-frame I can't see why not.

G'day Nick, Its the same power steering rack so it doesn't matter what engine you are running or going to run, it just means you may have to put the power steering pump in a different mounting position depend on your accessories drive set up.

Hi im interested in power steering for my lx hatchback i have a 253 in it but eventually mite upgrade to 308 or small block chev would it matter? Or im i better off waiting untill i have my engine?

Hi All,

 

I just got my insurance cover renewal for the power steering racks kits again, I seams that the insurance cover per year is the same as the profit from the rack kit sales over the past 12 months. Due to only selling these kits in limited numbers per year I have decided to have a sale. I have in stock three standard ratio rack kits that I am going to let go at cost $2,450 till the end of the month if any one is interested.
