My daily driver work hack is a 1998 VS Commodore V6 ute. Awhile ago it developed a big end bearing knock which started to get worse & left me in the position of having to replace the engine before it let go & left me stranded on the side of the road somewhere.
Being a performance freak, if i had to go to the trouble of pulling the V6 engine out, i didn't want to replace it with another stock V6. I found a written off factory supercharged V6 1997 VS Caprice on Pickles Auctions, brought it home & stripped it over a weekend. After selling off all the bits i didn't need, the complete super 6 & trans ended up owing me less than what a stock V6 would've cost me from the wreckers. The following weekend was conversion day, starting at 7am on saturday morning.

The front bumper is off the car because i replaced the corroded non-functioning A/C condensor. The Caprice wreck had recently had a new one fitted & the A/C overhauled, so i fitted it all into the ute as part of the engine swap. For the first time since i've owned the ute it'll have A/C, just in time for summer. I also fitted a second-hand set of Pacemaker headers running through the original exhaust to keep it sounding stock. It has been back on the road for almost two weeks in it reincarnated guise, sounds like any other V6 Commodore until the throttle opens up & the supercharger starts to "whine", is as economical if not marginaly better on fuel than a stock V6, but pulls hard like a V8 when you accelerate.

Should hook a 5 speed behind it. Drove mates VT supercharged V6 with 5 speed and it hooked along very well.
VS Caprice would have brought good money from wrecking it out.

Thought about a T5, but as it is my daily work hack i wanted to do it on the cheap, so i'll stick with the auto trans for now. It's very quick even with the auto, thinking of a 10psi pulley upgrade in the near future. Caprice was fully optioned, leather, sunroof etc so i got around two thirds of my money back on it 7 kept alot of good parts for the ute at the same time.

The 10psi pulley upgrade is well worth it. Autos fine in the big city. Have u got an SS front bar im sure spare one in my backyard same colour.
My 5L VS Caprice got it cheap and after stripped out the 5L owed me nothing, there worth more in parts which is a shame as there a nice ride done up.

Being a HBD plated car, i think my ute might've had an SS front bar at one stage. It has all the studs on the sills for the SS side skirts too. It is a shame the Caprice, Calais are worth more in parts, i actually like the VR-VS series & have owned a few of them, i had no hesitation in parting out my Caprice though. It was nailed pretty hard, full side & hit that hard it tore the rear control arm off the k-frame & drove the rim back onto the petrol tank causing it to rupture so there was no chance of it ever hitting the road again.

Thanks Gene, believe it or not but i nearly bid on a written off VS HSV Senator with a factory 215i (355cid) engine for a donor car. It was at Mannheim Fowles auctions, their system for bidding/buying is different to Pickles & it would've meant alot more work fitting it to my ute, so i let it go & waited to find a VS super 6 instead.

How much extra wiring was it to fit the super 6?

Harness & ECU are unique to the super 6, but plug into the main body harness exactly as the standard ones. Because i used the engine/trans out of the same model car, it was more or less a bolt in swap.
