I thought a better put my Ute up. its a 75 Hj, has very minimal rust with only 4 tiny holes in the passenger floor. i bought it off a scrap metal dealer, it will be mostly original once finished apart from being a little lower but not dragging on the ground, hopefully a 5 speed, colour and maybe a set of 12 slotters or something along the same lines. Ive got ss bucket seats for a little bit more comfort. dads a mechanic and had abit to do with the old holdens, which is a massive help, but the rule is I have to do most of the work. its on a tight budget as im 7 months shy of 16. im not the best on computers so i hope the photos work.

Good work, HJ's are cool. Make sure you don't make the mistake many make and weld up the tonneau clip holes, they are much better with those left on.

And check the chassis for cracks around the front suspension before progressing any further

chassis cracked on the left side ( thanks for the warning), ill be leaving the tonneau clips as i plan to put one on it. its a good help that dads a good welder.

Don't use 12 slotters, the HJ will catch Ferpes! They look way cooler with original rally rims, either the original HQ-HZ 14" or US 15".

Check harder for cracks. They crack around the shock "tower" where it is welded to the rails, also around the welds where the lower control arm brackets are welded to the rails, especially the rear lower. Find the ends of the cracks, drill a hole in the end and then weld with a mig. See if you can find a WB Statesman or HZ-WB commercial at a wreckers, and pull the chassis bars off it that run from the engine crossmember to under the firewall. Take note of here the holes are for these to bolt to so you can drill the chassis. HZ and WB use thinner steel in the rails than HQ-HX so they put these bars on to avoid cracking, and they do help especially on the older cars with thicker steel chassis.

That would be a criminal offence to fit those LOL, set of convo pros or HQ GTS wheels would look better

The chassis is only cracked in the one spot, someones tryed to fix it but did a terrible job.

12 slotters arnt to bad they just need to be on the right car with the right colour.

these are dads back in 92. id love to find them, but would probably be rusted out. the one on the right is a Hq, hot stroker 235 with triple 2in SU's and a wagot head with a 35/75 cam. motor was original built for speedway. it was murder to drive around town, he got clocked at 212ks. the one on the left is a hj, 308 v8. with 12 slotters :)

Be careful of old repairs on those cracks. I'd seek a professionals advice first before proceeding. If you want to send me the ute's ID details i'll put them on the Sandman database (I know it isn't a Sandman but non-Sandmans fill the holes in the database). I may be able to get you more info on the car too, just for history's sake anyway.

You're right, 12 slotters look good on the right car, unfortunately Holdens aren't the right car...

Good luck with the project, I hope this chassis crack is fixable...

V the cracks out with a die grinder and assuming you are a competent welder, lay a thick penetrating bead back in there.

As long as you arent talking about massive through and through cracks, I dont see it being a massive problem.

They crack right through the metal on these. I've seen them start at the weld on the rear of the lower control arm mount, and go all the way under the rail, through the joint (these rails are two x C sections overlapped joined here) and up the other side.

Just picked up another ute, body is rusted out, but the chassis is perfect and has a full premier dash and a straight front clip, with a working cassette player but the door for the cassette has broken, which is a shame. maybe the corvette like wheels it has will look good after a polish :)

my spare parts ute, look fairly good, but theres bog everywhere you look, has a nice straight front, premier dash, and a few other good parts.

I've had the ute just over 4 days and already started polishing them :) they've even got brand new tyres. the motor is a stocker and has 175psi on each cylinder and starts first hit. fairly good buy i think.

14x7 they dont have any stamps, so i wouldnt know what brand, but i just call them corvette look a likes :)

Had a look at the wheels again and took a wire brush wire with me, on the flat surface that rests on the drum/disc is 11-84 and HQ, i guess ones the build date and hq is the stud pattern, at least they fit. :)

You see chromed, widened stockies around but I've never heard of anyone getting them done. I put some on my green Torana and apparently ROH did them up back in the day.

I hear there are some tight rules around the plating industry nowadays but I guess you could still get that done?
