Hi guys,
The intermediate steering shaft in my hz ute needs attention. There is a dust boot that is well and truly seen better days and I will replace it, but I'm thinking that the bearings may be gone too.
There is a bit of play in the shaft and there have been times when turning that the steering kinda locks at a certain point (not at full lock). This doesn't happen often...only twice but I think that replacing the bearings may be a good idea.
What I want to know is, how do I pull the shaft off to repair/replace? It seems easy by looking at it a few bolts up top and a few down the bottom...am I right? Or is there something else I should be doing?
Just wanna check first before I frOck anything up through not asking first.
Also while I'm at it would it pay to look at the steering box? What should I do to maintain it? Grease it? Anything?
Thanks guys

They can be rebuilt, a bit of work and a bit fiddly. Sometimes they are too flogged out to be easily rebuildable though. However it is hardly worth it when Rare Spares sell an exchange shaft retail for about $90. If you can buy trade even better.

Cool. Thanks for the link. Wasn't aware anyone did the full replacement! Is there a way to check if the steering box is rooted?

The steering boxes are generally fine until they either run out of adjustment or the seal chews the output shaft so much it won't stop leaking (power steer). Anything else a rebuild kit will usually sort, the manual steer ones seem to go forever without issue
