While goggling the other day I found a thread on another forum pretty much saying the same thing. There was pictures of a grille in some tooling but apparently it wasn't easy as they thought and was shelved. Like others have said. How the frOck could they make it 40+ years ago but today with all the wonderful machines and technology they cant?
And the LJ stuff that was reproduced is just plain shit!

Can't remember where I read it but basically same did a prototype that was wrong & instead of re-tooling it got canned

They probably could produce stuff to a very high quality to exacting specifications and little difference from the original but the fact is that we don't do things like we used to and the cost to them and us would be exorbitant!
The thing we really need is for 3D printing to develop a bit more so we can scan a grill and then print it out in anodised aluminium but I don't think that's possible yet.

The LC Torana Grille is unlikely to ever be developed successfully as the company that attempted to develop it used a different production method and therefore finish was not acceptable.
One of the biggest challenges reproducing parts is demand today compared to mass production car and spare parts volume at day one. The tooling investment involved for Rare Spares to develop this product is likely not going to be viable for the foreseeable future unless an acceptable alternate production method becomes available to us. We would like to make everything but it is simply not always possible.

The old supply and demand, how true is that. You know that these LC grilles were mass produced some 47 years ago and with all of the modern technology we still can't successfully reproduce them.

I've got a stuffed grille, I'm going to have a go at making my own using the top, middle and bottom sections, the mesh part is totally RS. Going to try that composite plastic stuff you can get at Bunnings, just have to find the time.
