Looking at compressors to use for primer, complete finished underside, suspension in KBR or similar and air tools and if all goes well the top coat 2 PAC paint
What size should I be looking at ?

Too small compressor will lead to it running all the time and running hot or worse overheating.

(well not without some mods anyway).
Point being if it was only $50 difference between the best and biggest 10amp compressor to the next better and bigger 15amp then I would go the 15amp but if the difference is greater than $200 then I stick with the 10amp one for home use.

As others have said bigger is best with compressors. As big as your budget!
16cfm is about as big as 240 volt and will be 15 amp will go then you jump to 415 volt.
With any compressor you need to look at FAD, = free air displace, Italian cylinders are good,
Compressors heat the air, Friction, which means condensation moisture as it cools therfore get and use a good water trap,
It will help protect the tools.

Is the CFM rating what you guys are talking about or the FAD rating.
On some I've seen the compressor is rated 17cfm and 12cfm FAD.....yikes!

Emu, a 17cfm may only give 12 cfm fad, it may not have a big enough motor to do any more.

as many details would be good for the guys new to the game. and where to get them
also what do i need for a new mig? just for panel work and smaller stuff. would prefer a gas.

or this unimig would be ideal http://www.unimig.co...1&subcategory=1
I would say both of these machines would be able to weld up to 4-5mm.
Places like AIS, Complete steel, Gasweld and Bear fast have a pretty good range of these sorts of hobby migs. Good luck.

Also Bomber, how do you regulate pressure if you bypass the regulator.
