Check out using 'brine water'. By simply adding some salt into your water/ice mix the temperature can be somewhat colder.
I'm too lazy to google it but you should have a read. Might be worth a try and it wont rust the copper. :google:

sounds pausible as
salt water doesn't freeze well
and it boils at a higher temp too :)
would dry ice work?
or would it be too cold?

I dont think dry ice would contact the pipe as well as water.

And yeah the brine works we used it in the nade engine, got the water in the esky to -3 degrees, crushed up ice and salt.
