Just thought i ask everyones opinion on what would be the best head for a naturally aspirated 202.

Yes i know there are the jzeds(too many $$$ for most of us) duggans etc(if you can find them) but what else is out there, i've even seen ford heads on some, comon guys throw some ideas.

Getting bored might need a new project.

This is always a massive can of worms, and it seems its a case of horses for courses.

Basically, from what i gather, and generalizing a bit.

Drag racing, excluding jzed or duggan, you want a 9 port.

Hot street/drag you want a 12 port

Mild street you want a 12 port

Ford heads if you are handy with a mill and a lathe and feel like a frOck around.

Cheers :P

An off the shelf YT is only really good for a mild build, and most the ones on ebay for 4-500 are #@$^%& and need a grand spent on them anyway.

Cheers.

he did say he wanted the best head....
i would never use one again on an aspirated deal, if it had 20 psi in it that would be a different story.

no idea this was on a drag race eng but they are all the yt alloy's are open chamber.
After it was ported, chambers welded, hardened seats and guides replaced, machined and filled with good stuff the jzed looks real cost effective.

Best budget head would be blue hi-comp bolt on.

IMHO

- best budget head. Black EFI.
- best base for moderate engine. Small chamber 12 port (or blue high comp as Rodomo calls it)
- best all out max hp is probably JZED, but I've not had anything to do with one.

Yep i agree ,a max effort alloy 12 port will cost at least 4 grand without rockers, getting close to JZ cost.

No way i'd be spending that much on a dirty old holden head, what's the cost break down. I thought 1600 for a 9 port was dear 15 year ago. Maybe a ford is worth looking into, i read something oldjohno wrote that he thought the holden head wasn't big enough to start with, can't remember where i read now.

That's what i thinking too bomber, i'm an aspirated fan, don't know what it'd be like without a turbo. Did oldjohno ever get his done or further along.

Still not finished. Building a couple of 12 port manifolds at the moment, once they're out of the way I'll try to get the other engine finished.

Heres a thought... 9 port 173, VN valves and springs, good port job (I just bought a die grinder with steel and alloy bits) screw in studs, 1.6 roller rockers, bigger cam than I already have. Mmmmmm, grunt anyone???

Johno, does the std ford head flow better than a ported holden head, anywhere near a jzed? What sort of power do you think a ford headed holden could make.

what is the ET or HP figure you are aiming for?
i know of a 202 with a iron yt 12 port that just spun the rollers to 298rwhp on pump fuel with a flat tappet.
