Don't get too concerned about how early or late it is. If it isn't original to your car that HL engine is as good as any other one.

Your HL 29398 was before HL 7182* which was produced November 1977 so that means yours was produced before 1978 that is all my very breif record on HL engines reveals.
You need the last number of the code behind the oil filter to give you the year.

I think that is LX around 5-6/76, from a manual car. But I don't have a huge amount of these recorded so timeframe might be out a bit. Autos used QL engines or XQL if after ADR27A introduction.
