this article, and it says that Shut and Cut is not illegal in Australia, if the repair is done to a safe standard, so in safe standard would mean a Licensed Body Repairer doing the job, and if its not illegal in Australia as long as its a safe standard then the law is saying the car is still the car ????????????

So have I got this right, If an Xu1 was cut and shut with an SL for repair then it would be an Xu1 with a SL chassis number, if someone did a body swap then it would be a replica with an SL chassis number etc, if someone swapped numbers then that would be illegal?
Obvious allowance would Holden have supplied blanks and numbers had to be stamped?

Now this is getting confusing really i thought if you swapped tags and a shell it was illegal
Yes swapping tags and shell is illegal, that article says a shut and cut is not illegal if done in a safe standard, just saying what the article says.

(conversational purposes only, I don't see the value in little aluminium tags and date stamps...)

At what point does a repair become a rebody? If I replace the doors, quarters, guards, floorpans, right hand rail/inner guard, roof, bonnet, boot of an XU-1 with the panels off of an LJ S, is it still an XU-1?
(conversational purposes only, I don't see the value in little aluminium tags and date stamps...)
If the tags say xu1 thats what it is

Otherwise its a resto,a semi-resto or a rebody.
Theres nothing wrong with any of them, but its only original once.

This is exactly why I started th GTR & XU1registers on here.Only real way of sorting the problem out is to get a register happening of the genuine XU1s and GTRs but thats a minefield. I think until we can do that the best thing that can be done is just to highlight what John said and what I tell people in the market do the check before the cheque. Rant over
You are much safer including your confirmed numbers and vehicles on one of these lists, that keeping it all secret.
(FYI, the above has been agreed as correct by a number of Police in the game....)
No one can steal your numbers as they are here for all to see, and it is confirmed proof that the car exists (and you have it....)

To me,its only original if its never been touched, aside from basic maintenance.
Otherwise its a resto,a semi-resto or a rebody.
Theres nothing wrong with any of them, but its only original once.
Thats my thoughts exactly Graig .

Interesting maybe we should be looking at how the Americans class their cars. I think they may be a little ahead of us. Full resto or not if a car retains many of its components engine, head, gearbox, diff etc they are classed as suvivor cars.
