G'day guys
I'm installing a 253 into my uc. In fine with the conversion but I need some advice on the exhaust.
I want to run a dual exhaust.
Has anyone got photos or seen a dual exhaust over the diff and out the back in a uc with out modifying the body? I don't think there is enough clearance because of the different fuel tank.
Or my other 2 options are dump before the diff or just after and have the pipes sticking out behind the wheel like old pontiacs.
What are people's thoughts/advice

Essentially the same for A9X but the diff centre is bigger.

I have a big drop tank with dual 2" which took 3 visits to the exhaust shop and then a bit of customer hammer work on a bend over the top but sits OK now.

Can be done!

Excellent! Did you chop out the spare wheel well to fit the drop tank?

Nope, Drop tank has a relief for the LH/LX (& A9X) spare wheel divit, where the tyre leans against the diff hump. UC, as you know, stands the spare up to one side.

Is that your real issue? getting past the spare wheel bulge?

U will have to change the fuel tank to run twin zorst out the back. No room for drivers side.

I would have expected that the RH tail pipe would have run under the chassis rail member on the floor, it being outside where the tank sits. Surely any worthwhile exhaust shop could tweak an LX tail pipe to sit in the location properly, or just make one out of 5 or so mandrel bends.

Sorry what I meant was to fit the drop tank did you remove the uc spare wheel well so the tank sat between both rails like a LH-LX. Or was it in a A9X?

I would like to think a exhaust shop could get one to fit too. As it is my 6cyl exhaust sits under the chassis on the LHS and it looks like she'll fit on the drivers side just never seen the dual exhaust on a uc yet

I had an LH/X twin system on our UC for years without any drama's, just had to twist the tailpipes around slightly to clear everything.

Exhaust shop could easily mod the tailpipes to fit better than I did, sounds like they couldn't be stuffed?

Yeah I went to the 'best' exhaust shop in hobart they're doing my mates lx dual exhaust but won't do mine. Ill find someone. Whilst on the subject what size would you recommend for a mild 253. I don't want it to be quiet but not over the top. I was told 2 1/4 was the biggest I should go

I was running a 253 with that twin exhaust, it was a 2'' system. Heaps big enough for that motor and sounded pretty sweet imo....

Just a update in case anyone else is looking for the info I was. The exhaust shop used a twin lx system and on the drivers the bloke chopped the drivers tail pipe. He re routed the tailpipe and it sits down a bit lower than the tail pipe but not lower than the bottom control arm mount. You can't even tell when the cars on the ground.

Ill take more photos when it stops raining :)
