Damo's LX Hatch...

Seeing as things are happening finally on the old girl, i thought i'll update the progress here..
Then i realised i have never started a thread about it!! so here it is.
I bought the car back in 2000 as my daily driver. Was sick of having new cars messed with and went back to something i could play with.
Here it tis a year or so after i got it.
Pretty standard, tired 308 M21 muncie and 9"
Was good fun to hack around in,gears jamming up and all but things happen when your playing cars.
So i broke the 9" by trying to stop too hard turning into the street which i think also hurt the gearbox.
The input bearing ended up in bits
so i rebuilt that and drove it for a bit longer.
Had a few little bubbles of rust and decided it was time to take it off the road and fix 'er up a bit.
So i stripped it and cut the rust out and gave it a squirt of paint
Any way that lasted about 6 months in pieces and thought it'd be clever to enter it in a show to get me motivated to finish it off.So i got the car back in pieces 3 days before Extreme HP show 2005 ( think it was then)
Got it all back together with a couple of all nighters and drove it down there
After the show and driving it for a month or 2 i bought a set of convo pro's for it which changed it completely
Not long after i decided it was getting really tired in the engine and it was time to do something about it......
What a mistake...
So thats where the car stopped its progress
After i pulled the engine out i started to tidy up the engine bay and got side tracked by the other 10 or so cars that came through my shed.
And thats where it sat until 2007 when i heard about some engine bits that i liked the sound of.
Couldnt resist and shelled out the cash for this thing
Got a bargain, brand new never been used VN group A manifold, rocker covers, throttle bodies, fuel rail, lifters, cam and a brand new set of VN heads ( not the group A D ports unfortunately)
So managed to pick up an airbox and Y pipe as well.Mounted the airbox where the battery used to be and used a cut out next to the radiator for clean air.
In that time it also got new bushes in the front end, bilstein shocks, king springs, selby's adjustable sway bay,UC rear sway bar and a leyland P76 brake conversion.
And it sat again.... Family stuff got in the way, house stuff and generally working too much didnt help either.
Until recently......
Seeing a few mates getting their cars going has got my interest back (Greenmachine,Chickenman)
So a few years ago i bought a COME racing 396 ci stroker kit. That'll fit nicely in there
Went out and bought a set of 600 series COME alloys as well.
Then i went and had a bit of a spending spree. christmas came early for me!
so i sat all the bits on my spare block in the shed to have a squiz as you do before taking it all off to the engine builders
So most of the gear is now at the engine builders.Just have to drop the block off next time i'm home and it'll be underway.
The aim is for around the 575hp but with mountains of torque.
The Haltech is coming next week for the control, and after christmas i'll get an order a new TKO 600
Its finally happening and i'm getting a little excited!!!
Cheers

Left foot braking in the torana was always PITA with size 13's so it is only a clutch foot!
ASR sump has turned up at home so i'm looking forward to checking that out.
Thanks UCANG,will be a heap tougher with the engine in. There were a few torana's around then :-).
Barney, been keeping an eye on your progress over there, looks like your having a ball!! but get home and fix your car!!
As for the front end boofhead, it might have to wait a while if i end up with another car, hint hint!

Little bit of info.
The engine is all at the engine builder's and its under way!!!
Roller cam is ordered and has some nice bumps.
248/254 @.050 on 112 degree centres. .660/.614" lift should be sweet as well.
Block is being clearanced early next week and the four bolt main conversion will be happening after that.
Unfortunately the manifold will be going.Have a torque power pro paw manifold and a 950 hp holley for it.
Heads have been ported and flow good numbers.(over 680hp with minimal work)
So its slowly moving....
Just paying for the engine now and then it'll be time to buy some more bits for it!!
Will keep ya's informed!!

Okay, so i thought i'd better update this finally.
Good news about my engine finally!!!
After going through drama's with the stroker kit as well as the heads(sh#t quality control by the manufacturer) it is finally screwed together.
Ended up going back to a carby and put the injection manifold under the bench for a rainy day.
So i'll let the photo's do the talking
So its just waiting on the sheet metal rocker covers i have at home and a few little bits.
It'll end up going home and put in the car for the extractors to get made up,then back to go on the engine dyno to be run in and tuned.
till next time....

I was tempted to get the manifold coated, but in the end,its no show car.As long as it looks good from 20 feet away,i should be able to hide in tyre smoke!!
I was pretty dissappointed with the COME stuff. You get raped for it and then have to go through and check it all out again.
As for the injection manifold,it might end up on another project later on.
Green/bluepressurecookermachine- GET STUFFED!! hahaha
