So who can you recommend to build a 202
I'm a mechanic by trade but haven't gone into high performance engines and pushing these engines to the limit isn't something I want to experiment with in my own car lol It'll cost more $$ in the long run experimenting

Hi sjp67m,
I would recommend oldjohnno and Bomber Watson or you can put the goodies together yourself. Dave I

Hi all,
looks like we do not need a steel crank as in this 2006 thread talks about them:-

Some people prefer the steel crank as an insurance item, or if they prefer a different counterweight size or shape. The only cast 202 crank I ever killed was due to an oil pump failure.

Hi Vick,
Agreed, I have only damaged the Big Ends with all the thrashing the poor 202 crank got.
Was thinking at 14:1 compression, I mite need a Steel Crank. Dave I

This is your engine. If you would be happier with a steel crank in the thing, then get one. No point putting a cast crank in and continually worrying about the engine letting go.

Hi sjp67m,
It is a lot of money to throw at something that will wear out depending on use.
My guess, you would see what it can do. Dave I

Solid HP claim. Head & intake must be moving some serious CFM for a 12 port.

14 k for a red motor, tell him he's dreamin.

The poster here(YEL327) i think, recommending a VN/S donor car makes the most sense, taking the whole picture into accnt. Ebay the dreggs of the commo, and you have virtually free running gear.

good luck

Everyone goes throws a 350 chev in its cheap and I would like to keep it fairly original (keep it a 6cyl that is)
I mean for $$ value the 350 is good value but it seems like every other car on eBay !

Yep fair call, its your car.

Would be good if you could build its orig motor for resale purpose.

there are a lot of tricks to keep a red or blue black bottom end together not expesive just alot of time and cleanliness I rev my engines hard turboed or normanly asperated ex speedway racer we reve them hard and for a long time the longest was a 100 lapper in Rochampton 7800rpm 100 laps no worries 1/4 mile circle. nothing special, I worked for the Brock shop at the time and info flowed freely around the shop.

In just trying to decide what motor to go for in my hatch I know it's cheap to get a 350 crate motor
But how much would it cost to build a decent 202 ?
Obviosly with more power then standard but remember its a daily driver so it has to be within a reasonable budget :/

Hi sjp67m
If you add up the cost of the conversion to a V8 ( engine, carby, electrics, engine mounts, radiator, gearbox, tail shaft / diff, exhaust system etc) you could build a nice 202..
As Tryhard said you don't need lotsa cash to make a 202 go hard and be reliable.

A 300 HP 308 will suck less juice than a 300 HP 202.

But theres a wayyyyyyy bigger sense of achievement getting more than 1 1/2 horsepower per cube in a 6 than it is to only just reach 1 horsepower with a 308
