I must admit yes Im going off 2nd hand or whatever info. I did not personally see these things take place. I did however see video footage of the almost riot scenes of people punching on and crowds of people and security going for it.

You mention pubs and clubs which have the same thing which is alcohol. Alcohol fueled violence will ruin this event. Go to the pub to drink. Go to a car event for the cars. Dont mix them

Banning alcohol at these types of events is a knee jerk reaction imo. As has been stated earlier it's only a few who ruin for the majority of people who do the right thing. A better solution is to ban these dickheads from going to these events which I also realise is very hard to police. This is what they do at all sporting events. When you get large numbers of people in hot weather you are always going to get a minority who stuff up.

This country has too many stupid laws already that stop normal good folk doing things that they enjoy. I went to the Boxing day drags at Heathcote a few weeks ago. I would say half of the 500 or so were drinking and there was no problems. We certainly had a good time and I am sure everyone else did.

My point is why punish good people with silly rules. Next you will say they should ban light beer at the footy because some dickhead runs out on the ground. You get dickheads anywhere you go lets face it.

I still stand by the zero alcohol idea. Its a car event. You can enjoy a car event without grog.

Any event at Eastern creek is run successfully without booze ( powercruise, supernats etc).

Australia seems to be the country for knee jerk reactions so why not make it a family event rather than a piss up like it was.

The accident happened on Northbourne, He went for cruise with friends rather than just lap around the event. As you can see on the youtube clip he had only just had a photoshoot for Street Machine mag that morning. Shame but he'll be back !

If you dont like what goes on don't go, it's your choice. I just dont agree with banning alcohol for the 99% of people who do the right thing. I am sure it is a family event but that doesn't mean certain age groups are not allowed does it. Fact is organizers just need to get tougher on these people so it doesn't ruin it for the rest of us.

I probably wont go again. However I was not aware of exactly what went on until I attended. Now I scratch my head at how this event has been allowed to exist for 26yrs.

Seems the Commy was very badly damaged from the hit but the Territory wasn't
Was the car modified in the back that affected the structure ?
Just seems like alot more damage than we would expect
Seems he poped into the car infront too
So whats the real story of the crash.. .who was actually at fault
Was everyone following too close or what ?

I believe theres alot more to the story than a few pics and the short vid I watched show

apparently the vl was common to have this kind of damage in a rear end impact, the vl was stationary when it was hit from behind by the territory at km/h also told the territory didnt even brake

100% agree on your first sentence.Never been and quite freckly never realy want to go,the way its going each year it will be no longer, maybe they should change the name the feral fest.
And back to the original topic,I feel so sorry for the owner if they weren't doing anything wrong.
Cheers

All this talk about drink & driving.
Was the driver of the 4WD drunk?
Did the Police charge the driver of the 4WD with DUI?
Did the occupants of the 4WD actually attend Summernats?
Maybe the driver of the 4WD was just another retard talking or texting on their mobile phone whilst driving?
Hopefully the Police charged this idiot with everything they can think of.

Exactly ......

I once ran into the back of a commy, with a HT kingswood,it didn,t end up that bad, but the boot was at the parcel shelf, was at about 70kms,all that happened to the HT was it broke the spot lights of the bumper,i drove home,he was on a tilt tray, both of us could not believe the damage to his car.

The whole VB to VL commodore range were death traps. There is a youtube vid of a yellow VB? crashed tested head on into a barrier, at what speed I can't remember, but the rear end of the car tried to overtake the front and the car ended up about half,if not less, it's original length. Scary stuff to watch.

The VL was not a Walky. It was just a Calais and a bloody nice car as well!
Really feel sorry for the guy. Looking at his FB Page, He did a shit load of work in the three months prior to the Nats to get it there.. It was a real credit to him and his mates.

Alcohol will always be a part of this event and the reason is that the Sponsorship bucks from Jim Beam, CUB, etc is massive! That will never change unless Rare Spares, Street Machine, Shannons and other large Sponsors make it happen.

Toranafest is alcohol free for the very reason that is shown here. 99% of poeple at the Nats are Car enthusiast and do respect others cars, etc. The problem is the Bogans and rednecks that would be lucky to drive a fourpot POS that ruin it for the rest!! They think that the Nats is their excuse to get pissed and act like the bunch of feral dumbwits that they are..

With the way the media and government are looking at anti social/ Hooning behaviour, they have not added to the cause, by any stretch of the imagination.

Mick

Apparently they were testing the facility not the car, the car was a rolling shell loaded with 400 kg of ballast and hit the concrete wall at 62 mph (100 Kmh). The standard test is 64 Kmh.

The crash test date on the car door is 9/6/92.

The vl was stopped at the lights and the territory hit him at about 80kph, didn't hit the brakes at so I guess there's more to find out as to why the Territory driver didn't see him or attempt to stop etc.

Easy enough to do. Alot of times people don't register if they sit at the lights for a while they'll take the foot off the brake and put hand brake on, drivers usually drive in auto-pilot and only react to subconscious visionary things such as brake lights or blinkers, so he the driver behind probably wouldn't have even noticed until he was literally about to run up his arse.

seen this on the way in on Saturday morning, not a pretty sight. It was a 5 car accident apparently but i had only seen 3 cars by the time we got there. No one died it was mentioned on the radio but we did think the worst when we first drove past. Hopefully the owner bounces back bigger and better than ever.

One of the major factors is the relative height of the Territory to the VL. It has gone over the top of where the structural areas of the car were. The VL was built in times when the world wasn't riddled with 'SUV's. I suspect most 1986 model cars would look similar after a rear ending at 80km/hr by a Territory, complete with trailer and several hundred kg of ride-on mower.
