yeah time and place buddy its called summernats he had concrete barriers either side

Yeah lay off Gene, there is no way 2 tonnes of out of control metal could knock those barriers over, or squash someone between them ! Lol.

Sorry mr5000 but that shit doesnt wash with me, dont care how good you are, accidents happen.... Im no fossil, i just am old enough now to know better. You want to defend this event, but support dickheads who do burnouts in an uncontrolled area surrounded on close proximity to drunk persons, yet bag dickheads who get drunk and grope chicks?

Both as bad as each other.

Ryan, these old armchair experts will never sway their opinion mate. They have probably never been to summernats and probably never will!

Quick question... How many people have ever been killed or seriously injured by a car doing a skid at summernats? How many have died or seriously injured in other forms of motorsport? What is more dangerous?

Remember skap is a shit stirrer... Loves to stir the pot! Ignore him...

This is the Torana Forum isn't it........ And Torana is an Aboriginal word when translated means "Do Burnout"...........lol One persons definition of overly dangerous will differ from anothers, thats why we get people who will skydive and others who wont. if you dont like the risks dont expose yourself to them.. I doubt anyone on here with any type of peformance vehicle has stayed within the bounderies of the road rules and public safety standards.... but maybe yous live in glass houses.. Dangerous, yes maybe, fun definetly and thats why thousands of people turn up, and yes some are not car enthusiasts and maybe drunk'n bogans but the majority are not, and you would probably find this out if you ever went.... I wouldn't take my car either.. cause sitting around on deck chairs with a blanket over my knees talking about my car for hours dos'nt really blow my dress up... cheers Oh and I'm 52 ... just because i've stopped having fun, I dont expect others to.... and Bathurst has always been a Tea Tottelers picnic I guess... Ban that too..

Damn, this thread is better than the shout box :D

First off, that was a pretty impressive skid.
Second, if those fine upstanding ladies & gentlemen want to stand that close to a car doing a skid like that, well good on them, there adults.
Third, I myself if I was in the crowd would back away a little, you just never know.
Forth, Its Tuff Street, we all know that shit is going to happen, make your personal decision on that fact.
And Fifth, The government and authorities have taken enough of our decision making away from us already, Act like Adults and make your own decision.
:)

I have never been to Summernats. I have wanted to go, had opportunity, just haven't.

I've been hearing stories like this since the event started. I wont stand back & watch some idiot trash my car regardless of how big a group he is in, so it is best if i don't attend.

So i'm curious. Could they make it a booze free event before 7pm? Could they cease vehicular movement at 7pm & ban/remove any offenders? If you want to camp there, sweet! You can get on the turps AFTER the daytrippers have left. Just a thought.

This is another very good suggestion that the organizers could look at, after all, we all know how these young bucks handle their alcohol. It takes years of hangovers and piss ups to know how to drink responsibly lol.

Can I just say after looking at the video again the people on the left (closest to the car) are either standing behind or on the concrete barrier. And the people on the right are a fair distance away..

Just saying

I hope your not serious Skap, because what I read of the post before yours made perfect sense to me. I would say if it is the biggest load of shite, then you need to go have another blinder like you did the other night and give your brain a bit of a rattle, you might just get it back to where it was :spit: :fool:

Burnouts are fine on the pad but if there is a crowd of people close to a car things can and will go wrong. Remember what happened in america to the aussie guy that " ripped a skid" and killed something lime 7 people because he lost control. There a time and a place for everything better to be safe than sorry.

I hope to go to the nats one day and will decide what its like when i see it

This is the reason these events get a bad name and people complain about everything costing so much, hello it's called public liability. If you want to do burnouts, enter the competition and show your actual skills, not be a dickhead and do it anywhere you like. This is what ruined it for everyone at the Masters a few years ago when one or two Ford drivers decided they were exempt from the rule that says no burnouts.

They may be adults but have all of them been briefed on the possible "shit that can happen" and why being so close is stupid? It's just not the car veering into the crowd, there is also the possibility of fast rotating parts/rubber letting go and or indeed part of the road becoming a,projectile

But really it's the idiot in the car, they are the ones in charge of the weapon
