Burnouts are fine on the pad but if there is a crowd of people close to a car things can and will go wrong. Remember what happened in america to the aussie guy that " ripped a skid" and killed something lime 7 people because he lost control. There a time and a place for everything better to be safe than sorry.
I hope to go to the nats one day and will decide what its like when i see it
Gotta agree too Stevo. Its just not smart for doing burnouts around crowds of people.
I do remember that burnout in the U.S a few years ago, was a 57 Chevy I think if I remember rightly. There must have been over a 1000 people on both sides of the car, just crazy stuff.

I wonder if they had one or two days totally alcohol free - or say alcohol free till 6pm.
Might help make the event more family friendly.

From what I witnessed, the attendents that I think have the most disrespect for the event are the non-australians or non-australian born residents.
What an interesting insight...

Dickheads are everywhere in life! Whether you are out at a nightclub, driving to work, walking through a shopping centre or attending Summernats.
The world is so frOcking politically correct these days, everyone doesn't want to look like they condone 'hoon-like behaviour'. It's the main reason I hardly ever come on this site any more. There are too many arm chair experts around here with everything. Go outside, experience the world and form your opinions that way... Don't just be a lemming and believe everything that you see on the TV, or read on the internet.

Recon ol mate in the blue ute ment that. All part of the show. That's why it kept landing on its wheels haha ;-)
I have never seen that vid before and I must admit I was a bit shocked the car flipped like it did, but then again when you've got that much rubber, going sideways is not a good idea lol.

We all appreciate it's a car show and this sort of thing happens, but it doesn't make it right and that's a fact

I have wanted to go to Summer Nats since I first heard about them but accounts relayed to me by others of some of what goes on has put me off. I want to go to an event where I feel safe, I am not going to be attacked by some drunk tosser out to prove his manhood, or hit by debris or a car doing what it shouldn't where it shouldn't. So I vote to not addend Summer Nats. One day the powers that be who run the event might look at what happening and decide to go back to having a car event with the nations top cars rather then a big pissup with drunken fools being foolish, it has worked at Bathurst and might at Summer Nats.
As for peoples behaviour on here... it the Internet, for the small brained that means a chance to be a keyboard legend, at least in their own minds anyway, for the most part don't feed the trolls and ignore the ignorant and the Internet can be a fun place, and if someone has a go at you just remember what good old Mrs Brown says... "that's nice"... it means the same thing as F&*K off you idiot, but in a nicer friendlier admin won't ban you kinda way

The roads we drive on every day are more dangerous than the roads at Summernats... Just look first post in this thread!
Dickheads are everywhere in life! Whether you are out at a nightclub, driving to work, walking through a shopping centre or attending Summernats.
Yeah, you're stating the obvious there.
As to being politically correct about "hoon like" behaviour, I will stand and say that I do not like hoon behaviour as it generally followed with the idea that it is their right to do it. There is a bloke in Perth who is now in hospital because he stood up for himself on a lake when he challenged other boat drivers who had a race (hooning) on a public lake. Now weather you think the race was ok or not, the bloke is in hospital because one of the other drivers came over with some of his mates and he got punched which fractured his skull. That's not right, you don't have to be an armchair expert or sit behind a keyboard to know that is plain wrong.
I don't think you give some people who post comments enough credit, some responses are dumbarse I give you that, but for the most part some have seen and experienced a whole lot more and and some less than you. But for you to group everyone into the political correct basket is a bit off.

Id just like to see it become an alcohol free event before it turns to shit. Its something iv grown up with having only missed 3 in my 21 years of being alive (2006, 2008 and 2012) and id like to be able to enter my car when my daughters old enough and just cruise like I used to do with my Dad without the fear of having the car damaged. Will I go next year? Who knows.
And now im out of this topic before im accused of being something else...

Here we go again. This thread was meant to be about a guy whos pride and joy was destroyed by reckless driving, not burnouts, fights and alcohol at summernats if that was my car and i saw this thread i would be shocked why does everyone need to make coments they know will cause a problem.

threads are like discussions they go off on tangents sometimes, and as for people getting along, for the the most part they do, just remember you can can a guy he's bad in bed but never tell him he can't drive hence there a bit of heated debate

I agree Hawk. This forum is getting very bitchy and for no real reason. I haven't been spending much time in here because of it, not because of anything said to me but just the demeanor of some of the wanker comments that I feel are unecessary.
I hope it changes though as this was once an awesome forum!
As for the VL in question well Brendyn is keen to build another one so hopefully after having one mint car stolen and another destroyed he keeps the passion alive. Remember we're a minority and need to stick together and not fight over such petty crap.
Rant over : )
Now let's see who bitches at me for saying that??!!

Lets hope the VL owner does continue builing cars. Although im not a VL fan i can appreciate how much work went into the build and how tough it looked
